5.0 out of 5 stars Essential read if interested in LOTR and wanting more!, 30 Dec 2001
By A. B. Barak (Oxfordshire, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As with the other excellent LOTR retrospective books in Christopher Tolkien's series, this one is an excellent read and a must for those interested in how LOTR came to be written and the different ideas JRR Tolkein had in the at times painful development of the tale.
Best of all, here you will find the (abandoned) text of the Black Riders capturing a Hobbit and Gandalf coming to his rescue as well as the development of the Fellowship's characters and the alternative meanings behind Galadriel's gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars a complex but brilliant masterpiece, 13 Nov 2000
By A Customer
the treason of isengard is one of those books that any Tolkien fan should always have close by. Though to fully understand it you need to also have a copy of "the return of the shadow". Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rivetting!, 30 Jul 2004
By A Customer
Awesome - I couldn't have believed from just reading Lord of the Rings , The Silmarillion and the Hobbit that Tolkien had written so much else - grateful thanks to Christopher Tolkien for giving us the true extent of his father's work.
