An impressive selection of photos - very varied styles too, such as wildlife, landscape, documentary, portraits. Good for inspiration, for travel photography.

The varied types of photography perhaps mean that the book feels a skimpy or bit unfocussed, as each country Art Wolfe visited is covered in only a few (very different) images, which leaves you wanting more and feeling that it is skimming across the surface a bit. But I guess that is the nature of the type of book - it doesn't claim to be a definitive guide to a particular place, the whole idea is that it summarises a long period of travelling around. I don't know his other books, but on the basis of this one I'll be checking them out.

This earth of ours never ceases to amaze! 17 Sep 2009
By Edward Etzkorn - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
You've seen Planet Earth, you've visited the National Parks, you've seen all kinds of beautiful photography. But Travels to the Edge proves that there is always more.
This utterly gorgeous book, printed in a size that fits on any table or bookshelf, brings the reader (and viewer) to every continent. Although its mission is to document the earth's wild places and wild animals, it has some of the finest people pictures I have ever seen. Even photos of places we have seen before are captured in a unique way that reminds us that there is so much of this world we have never seen or experienced.
Each photo is accompanied by a description of its locale, a bit of the background behind the scene, and why it was selected for this book. And the "Photographer's Field Notes" document the camera used, the lens, and the camera settings for each photo.
This is a photo essay and a document to share and to treasure for a lifetime.

great book 8 April 2010

Buy this book. PLain and simple. I don't understand what that guy was talking about with his one star review. For strictly landscapes there are other photographers out there that are better, but the people and wildlife images in this book are amazing. Wolfe has a great eye for catching people in their environment and bringing the two together. And his wildlife shots are up there with the best.
I am a semi-pro photographer so I especially like thet he gives the technical data for each photo at the end of the book.

Bucket List to the Edge 18 Feb 2011
By David - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you watched the shows, own the DVD set(s), you will want this book.

Art Wolfe's parents knew what they were getting into when they named their son ... Art's art is something that you will want to see.

I loved the TV series, I own both sets of DVDs, I use them in my college photography classes, and I share them with my middle school Social Studies classes ... and anyone else I can get to watch them with me.

This book fits right in there with everything else ... check it out.

Now, if I could only get Art to get out there for a third season ...

Buy it.If nothing else ... you will add to that Bucket List thing. I have New Zealand (photographed the same sheep ranch), Baja, and ... the reason I knew about it, wanted to go ... Katmai National Park. I HAD to experience the Grizzilies!

Buy it. Dream.
