5.0 out of 5 stars Snowdon in pictures from one of the best, 7 Mar 2005
A richly-illustrated hard-backed book recording the four seasons of the working year of the shepherds of Snowdonia, North Wales. Boasts numerous exquisite colour pastel and charcoal drawings depicting the farms, sheep and shepherds amongst whom he lived and worked. His lucid and sharp-eyed account avoids sentimentality but is sympathetic to the work and the lives of his subjects; his depictions of sheep recall-and rival-Henry Moore's. Foreword by Jan Morris. First published in 1991. He also designed the Royal Mail Stamps for the 1992 Great Britain Winter Scenes issue.
Keith Bowen was born in North Wales in 1950 and began exhibiting at the Royal Academy, London in 1980. He has written and illustrated a number of books including 'Among the Amish' and 'Snowdon Shepherd', his work can be seen in the National Library of Wales. The artist works in a variety of mediums and is considered one of the foremost pastel painters in the Country. He was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1992.
