'Travels With Casey' written by Benoit Denizet-Lewis brings the story about a journey of a man and his dog, after which issue of human-dog relation would be much more clear for reader to understand, but also some tips would be learned how to best treat these beautiful animals.

The author who wrote for New York Times Magazine, embarked on the journey with his dog Casey - nine-year old Labrador - in a rented RV across the United States. Denziet-Lewis is a bit afraid that his animal companion is not very fond of him, but during their long journey of 13 000 miles in 4 months when together two of them will visit 32 states there will be a lot of time to learn how and why things are the way they are between them.

Still, do not expect classic journal that was transformed into a book, because author only partly speaks about his memoirs during their trip, mentioning as well many things about dog care and life in general within texts made by scientists and regular people, as he pointed out in the introduction of the book saying that “he wanted---he needed---to feel better about his dog."

These two are not the only characters of this entertaining and educating story; along their long trip they will meet lot of people and their dog friends, some of them very remarkable such as police officer companion, wolf hybrid or a pet psychic. Their adventures are anything but boring, retelling unusual and sometimes dangerous situations in which they two took part.

After their journey reader will realize that contrary to the general opinion, a lot more people need their dogs than vice versa, while dogs sometimes do not take us too much to heart, as long as we are nice to them and meet their basic needs for safe life.

Bold and delightful. Well written, a great read. 23 July 2014

"Travels with Casey" is funny, informative and thought provoking. I started rolling on the floor laughing on page one (actually, l was guffawing on the dedication page).

Denizet-Lewis' writing style is so very easy to read, even as he tackles tricky topics.

I found it hard to set the book down once I started reading!

This book has exceeded all my expectations! 23 July 2014

Most absolutely wonderful! I am only a third of the way through this delightful book, and find is almost impossible to put down. I scowl at anyone who even speaks to me, but since I want this most enjoyable journey to last awhile for myself, I have forced myself to set the book down - for how long I will manage that, I can't say. Benoit has a wonderful way with words, has done such fabulous research, has put everything together in an entertaining and thought provoking manner, and, is clearly excellent at English grammar and punctuation. Wholeheartedly recommended.

A book for people who love dogs, travel, and good writing 31 July 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It is well written, funny, and thought provoking. As an animal lover, I appreciated the treatment of serious issues like overbreeding that harms the health of a dog and the serious problem of homeless pets. The topics are an integral part of the narrative and are brought out in a meaningful way in the author's encounters with dogs and people. Not only do I feel as though I know the author, whose first person narrative is rich in detail and humor, but I fell in love with Casey and his new rescued sister Rezzy. The people, places, and dogs that they meet on their cross country journey are interesting and memorable. There is much to think about and love in this book. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys good writing, interesting and important topics, and, of course, dogs.

Great summer read! 31 July 2014

I followed the adventures of Benoit and Casey via Facebook as he was researching and gathering information for this book. I eagerly awaited the book's release, and I was not disappointed.By halfway through the first chapter, I was enchanted. I felt included in the trip around the country, their ups and downs were MY ups and downs. I was drawn to the story because of my love for dogs, but I don't think that's a prerequisite to enjoying the tale. I now yearn for a road trip of my own.

It's a love story, told effortlessly in such a way that I felt Benoit was sitting with me telling me his planed and surprise adventures during this travels accompanied by photos and short videos. Benoit is not competing with other writers who embarked on similar journeys but very naturally includes many in his narrations. Witty, smart, candid, sensitive. I laughed and cried - specially page 103- and the last few lines.
