Biography

Track by track, the insanely singable, danceable and memorable songs of TRAVELLING LIKE THE LIGHT claim V V’s personal and artistic turf among the most gifted of today's singer-songwriters, and even suggest the career peaks of the young Bette Midler and comeback-era Tina Turner. As the songwriter and co-producer of her own music, it's impossible to miss V V’s deep appreciation of pop, soul and… Read more in Amazon's V.V. Brown Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

VV Brown bears all the hallmarks of your standard one hit wonder. The frenzied hysteria of "Crying Blood"--essentially a thoroughly modern makeover for "Monster Mash"--made an arresting impression at impact, sirens blazing in a heavy handed raid on the '50s. As singles go, it’s probably one of 2009’s best and set an unbearably high benchmark for the album. The surprise then is how watertight the remaining 11 tracks on Travelling Like The Light are. There’s the hint of a doo-wop revival (see also "Leave!" and "L.O.V.E") and an R&B underlay, though it doesn’t necessarily follow that it’s got much soul to speak of; she’s no threat to the likes of Amy Winehouse or Adele, or even Lily Allen, for instance. That matters not though as this album’s intentions are direct and remain fiercely on target. "Quick Fix" (which is about right) opens the album and ushers you to the dance floor in much the same way the B52s' classic "Love Shack" still does, by essentially stealing its drums. But it’s also much more up to date than that and "Crying Blood" suggest. The strummed sweetness of "Shark In The Water" and rigorous strike-a-pose pop of "Game On" compete on an even high-production playing field with the likes of Katy Perry and Pink and ensure we’ll have to count to two, if not much higher, before the year's out. --James Berry

Fun Fun Fun! 12 Oct 2009
Format:Audio CD
Saw V.V. Brown on BBC2, Later with Jools Holland & liked her. Delighted to see her live at Glastonbury 09 & realised she is more than a two song wonder. There are so many female vocalists around, some far to affected & synthetic for my liking, but I love the quirky approach of V.V. Brown & the album is fun & refreshing, even when dealing with tough aspects of life & her experiences. I was even more impressed to hear V.V. participated in Oxjam in South London.

Her music is enjoyable, fun & engaging, her personal style is funky & individual & this is a young musician who deserves recognition & support. Buy the album (a bargain on Amazon, via Indigo Starfish, who as ever were reliable)& support a genuine & authentic artist & not just another TV manufactured pop outfit.

From the moment i heard this women on LATER... WITH JOOLS HOLLAND i just had to hear more, she got my interest and i had to track down the album. From the opening track this album grabs your attention and doesn't let it go. How she isn't a really big star is beyond me.
Every track is well worth including on the album, even the slower ones belong, giving you time for a breather, before once again,we go speeding along. There's a bit of soul,a bit of pop,a bit of several things going on really. A great voice, good to brilliant tracks and better than i dared even hope. I look forward to her follow up,which if anything like this will be an album to play for many years without getting bored. It has to be said,V V BROWN is V V good.
