Product Description

Author: Gareth Jones
This fascinating collection of tales, some humorous, many exciting and all entertaining, have resulted from thirty two years of taking children on trips to places as far apart as Alaska, Peru and Borneo to experience things as diverse as watching the launch of a space shuttle to being breathed on by a hump backed whale.
The European based stories take you to a range of intriguing destinations in the company of the children who made these journeys possible; Barcelona, Bucharest and Venice; Postojna, Opatija and Pisa amongst many others.
An enjoyable read as well as an introduction to a range of destinations that any traveller, with or with out children, would be interested in adding to their list.

About the Author
Gareth Jones has been teaching combinations of History, Drama and Archaeology in the South East of England for over thirty years. Very early on he realised the inestimable value of travelling for children and so he has led trips all over the world to places as far-flung as Borneo, Peru and Alaska, as well as to a range of British and European destinations. As a result he has spent the equivalent of two and a half school years on trips and expeditions and accumulated the exciting and or amusing tales contained in this book. He thinks that this entitles him to retire early…..

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely read 9 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All too often in life you read a book about travelling and it is chock full of episodes and escapades to which it is difficult to relate. I am delighted to say that such a comment cannot be made about this volume. Most of us, be it as part of a family or as part of our job has an experience of travelling with children, and this book draws a smile of recognition.

The places that are mentioned are not ones which are out of the reach of the ordinary person - yet here we deal the familiar and the not so familiar, in a way that engages the reader and makes them want to read more.

This is a book that I am more than happy to recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT READ, THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND! 11 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's a great book from all perspectives, as a child that travelled on many a school trip, through the teachers eyes taking students abroad, as a parent sending their child on an excursion in the charge of the school and as a journey taker in general. This book would appeal to all! Such informative stories on destinations visited and tales of fun and scrapes encountered along the way with some history thrown in to boot. In each chapter you can clearly tell the travels engaged the children and the book certainly engages the reader. Cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Travelling with children is a delight, not only for the stories of the children and various adventures, but for the details of the places visited - a travel guide and good read all in one. Thoroughly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh so true! 11 Jan 2014

Having taken students on trips myself, I can so easily relate to the stories told! Well written and readable, this book is also easy to dip in and out of and would give new or even prospective teachers a great insight into the benefits of taking stud3nts on trips.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read 1 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It is difficult to imagine almost anyone who would not enjoy this excellent book. More than the hugely experienced traveller with puplils from his school in East Sussex, Gareth Jones also dips deeply into his subjects of history, archeology and drama to reveal a great depth to his observations of places visited and a great wisdom and understanding of young people. A warm, descriptive and wonderfully anecdotal read. Highly recommended !
