Product Description

Product Description

York was the most important northern English city for many centuries and today its history attracts millions of visitors. During the Roman era it had the privileged status of being one of the five colonia in Britian. Lated the Anglo-Saxons colonised York and the powerful Northumbrian kings made York their base. In 735 York became the See of the northern archbishopric and has remained so ever since. A Traveller's History of York offers a truly in-depth study of the city's history and current sites in convenient paperback format. Both scholarly and entertaining it fully explains how the Romans, Vikings and medieval masons left their marks on the city. The history of the Dales and the coast which are within a day's journey of the city and suggested excursions to important places is also included.
