When you go hiking you always need water and if you're out all day you will need to carry enough water. This bottle allows you to safely get water from almost anywhere making it safe to drink immediately so no need for chemicals or boiling, which take time and can make the water taste off. Providing you have some form of water source along the way there will always be something you can drink safely and instantly.

Drinksafe systems has probably the best customer service I have experienced from any company. I phoned for advice prior to buying the Travel Tap - they could not have been more helpful and spent over twenty minutes giving me valuable advice on which product to buy - the enthusiasm and belief in their product is palpable.

I then bought the Travel Tap 'pull top' version. When it arrived I was concerned that the lid was leaking slightly. I phoned Drinksafe again and they apologised and immediately sent me a 'no quibbles' replacement which worked perfectly with no leakage. The Travel Tap really is a great product, allowing you to filter water from any fresh water source taking out all bacteria/viruses and just about everything else. You can then drink it on the go with a gentle squeeze of the bottle! The product has been tested all around the world. It means that I can now go out on long treks and wild camping without needing to carry all my drinikng water with me - I can just fill my Travel Tap from any river or stream I come across with no threat of illness. I'm glad I bought it with the insulated carrier as it comes with a long lanyard so you can carry it outside your rucksack so your drinking water is always on hand whenever you need it.

This product is worth every penny and you have the extra security of premium customer service if there should be a problem. I cannot recommend the Travel Tap highly enough. Buy with confidence!

I have just been trekking in Nepal. This was by far the most valuable piece of kit that I took with me. It literally felt as though I had water on tap!

I jsed it for two weeks, with water from rivers, taps etc and not even a hint of illness, a lifesaver!

I used to take drinking water directly from streams in Scotland, but knowing that organisms like cryptosporidium are increasingly prevalent in hill streams I decided it was wise to take precautions if I could. This bottle is little heavier than a standard plastic water bottle (filter plus lid weigh 100g). The insulated carrier is light and needn't be taken if you don't want it. I have used it wherever I am unsure of water quality, both drinking directly from it and using it to fill up other water containers with filtered water. Mechanically it works well. Of course I have not done any tests on the output water myself to test the biological purity of the water and be certain of how well it filters, however assuming that their accreditation information is correct, it appears to do as effective a job as can be expected with current technology. The alternatives are I think UV purification which requires power and correct dosage/exposure, chemical purification which tastes and may have other issues and alternative filtration brands. Alternative filtration brands of equivalent efficacy appear to be significantly more expensive.

I cannot comment on the volume throughput of the filter before replacement is required. Some reviewers indicate that this is well below the 1600 litres claimed - if this is the case then some of the more expensive systems may in fact be cheaper in the long run, however as an entry level system it was affordable at around £35 and using it on maybe 20 weekends a year for say 5litres of water filtration that will give me 16 years use - that sounds pretty good value to me. Even if it only lasts half that time, no doubt technology will have moved on by the time I need to either get a new filter, or replace it.

I've just come back from 5 weeks in India, trekking in Ladakh and traveling overland from Delhi to Kerala and Tamil Nadu. I used the Travel Tap to decanter filtered water into bottles for three of us traveling together. The Tap worked really well for the time in the Himalayas, where we were able to use it to filter water in guesthouses and mountain streams (which tasted particularly good). We didn't have to buy any plastic bottles, we avoided using chemical purifiers and felt safe drinking water wherever we were. We probably got through about 200 litres over the two weeks in the mountains, After this the Tap became increasingly difficult to use to decanter into the other bottles. It worked better if you just used the it to suck from the spout. After about three weeks I gave up using it, and had to resort to chemicals and plastic bottles, which was a pity. The claim for 1600 litres seems far too ambitious, and I would rather have had a more realistic estimate, and then I'd have invested in a second filter, because I think the amount of money and waste that you save on compared with plastic bottles is worth it.

Initially I ordered the NEW 2013 Travel Tap ' Flip spout ' 800 ml pure water filter bottle with insulated carrier - 1600 Lts.

In design the flip spout is great and easy to use however practically I found it to not be the best, after a few days use, I noticed that you can't really leave the bottle on it's side without water leaking out. The main reason I ordered the Flip spout over the pull top was for the insulated carrier. I contacted the seller and customer service was excellent, fast and efficient communication, no questions asked just a simple straight forward swap for the pull top model. I was able to keep the insulated carrier. Would definitely recommend the pull top version. Ensure you screw it on tight so that water doesn't leak out. Excellent product!!!
