Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Move over every other game ever invented and make way for the classic board game by which all others are judged.

Monopoly is the absolute timeless family game. It's a game about strategy, chance, luck and ultimately about greed.

Invented during the Great Depression in 1934, Monopoly has since been translated into 26 different languages and has sold over 200 million sets worldwide. It's a small wonder that most people have grown up with Monopoly.

Monopoly, with its thrilling property-owning rules and objectives, is highly educational. For early Monopoly beginners of seven years, it encourages arithmetic skills. At the same time it teaches older players about money management, property management, basic economics, the art of negotiation and compromise (just how much are you prepared to trade for Mayfair). In many ways Monopoly also mirrors the lessons of life--chance and luck can throw even the best-laid plans astray, and if you 're not prepared to take the big risks you're unlikely to be life's big winner.

Yet Monopoly is also great fun and for some reason its simple rules don't tire or become dull from repetition--truly the mark of a timeless classic.

The only significant downside to Monopoly is that the full game can be a very lengthy event easily lasting hours.

Monopoly can be enjoyed by children as young as six years old and will still thrill a 97-year-old; it is suitable for 2-6 players.

A perfect game of family fun on a rainy day, a long holiday or a cold winter night, Monopoly will probably be the most played board game your you will ever own. --Victoria Mackenzie

Manufacturer's Description

Monopoly is the classic property trading board game. Invented in America during the Great Depression, it's the game about dealing in big money and getting rich quick. Starting from the famous "GO" space, move around the board, buying and selling properties, building houses and hotels as you go. Watch out for players landing on your property - they owe you rent. And don't forget to collect £200 every time you pass "GO". Your success depends on wise speculation, smart investments and clever deals. Even if luck fails, you can still resort to mortgages and deals with other players. If you become the wealthiest player with so much money that you own it all - you win Monopoly. The wheeling, dealing property game has gone portable. Just like a real property tycoon, now you can make deals on the go. True to the original game, this Travel Monopoly comes with a compact board, 'money', pieces, houses, hotels and dice. This handy travel sized version of the game is ideal for carrying and playing while on the move, just don't pass Go and end up in Jail.

Monopoly Letdown 12 Jan 2005
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
What on earth?
I bought this item because I wanted something easy to take along with me, but it has more bits and bobs than the actual game! In the end, it has no space to put the game back! However, it's a very good price and I have nothing to say against that. I will almost guarantee that smaller children will lose the microscopic pieces. Not nearly as fun as original.

I hope this helps!

In all i now have six different versions of travel Monopoly, and the only problem with them is that all the pieces are so small that game play is not impossible but pretty difficult.

Loose one of the pieces which is almost inevitable then the idea of travel Monopoly soon becomes a nuisance.

The only reason these minascule games sell is because it is based on Monopoly, any other game and people would soon realise they are far too small to be practicable.

Even the so called magnetic version is far from ideal because the strength of the magnets is very weak.

These pieces are designed for very small hands such as young children but since youngsters would love to eat the counters such a game would be deemed out of bounds.

Keep these games for their novelty value because playing them is far from easy.

Mini Monopoly 3 Aug 2005
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Like the other reviewer, I agree that the game pieces are very small and dinky, and the plastic pieces are not as good as the magnetic travel version in the white leather-look wallet that came out a few years ago. Not only is the new version chunkier, but it's very easy to knock everything over being so lightweight, and if you drop a piece on the plane, that's it, you'll never find it again! Other than that, the game remains intact, and well worth the asking price, if you fancy a game on the move. If you can get the older magnetic version on ebay etc, you may be better with that if you fancy a game on the plane.
