5.0 out of 5 stars Pack Your Bags (Along With This Book!) 25 Sep 2009
By Tracy Winters - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
"Travel Happy, Budget Low" contains a number of practical tips that the first-time traveler or seasoned veteran will find equally useful. Drawing from her globe-trotting experiences, author Susanna Zaraysky shares practical tips that will help satisfy the wanderlust in anyone, while saving them money in the process. Written in an easy-to-read, conversational style, the author shares many practical ideas that can be put to use on your next trip. I especially enjoyed reading the suggestions on how to make the most of your frequent flyer miles.

This is a must-read book for anyone who is ready to pack their bags and travel across the country or around the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good resource 7 Sep 2009
By Happy Traveler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a great source of basic travel information, especially for new travelers. The book's layout walks you through pre-trip preparation to while you're on the trip. It covers many topics that a traveler may not have thought of or forgotten; the web-site lists are helpful as well. The personal stories added a nice touch, especially since I love reading about others' adventures.

For me, the sub-title was a little misleading ("Over 200 Money Saving Tips to See the World"). It made me expect a slightly different book, namely a list of money-saving tips. While there definitely are some money-saving tips in the book, it would have been more appropriate to just say "Over 200 Tips to See the World", which is exactly what this book is.

In any case, I enjoyed reading the book and think it's a great resource for any traveler.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a great resource 30 Aug 2012
By MadameD - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The information in the book is fine, but nothing you couldn't learn from reading just about any travel blogs/forms for an afternoon, in fact it's less than you would learn. The information is very generic and assumes you've never, and I mean never, been on any international trip. I'm planning a RTW trip and based on other reviews expected something more insightful than "bring your passport and visa if you need one" and "don't carry to many guidebooks, they're heavy." It didn't need a book to tell me that airlines have flyer programs and to check other dates if your original dates are booked. This is straight from the book, "Visit local markets for fruits, vegetables, nuts, and local food vendors"...that's the whole of tip #135. The author does include suggested website for more detail in places but again, nothing you need to buy this book to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well presented and quite useful 20 Nov 2009
By L.A. Little - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Travel Happy, Budget Low, is a well organized and easily read book containing over 200 tips for making your travels both pleasurable and less costly. Susan includes numerous personal stories that are entertaining (including the fly-away passport) yet educational. Learning from others is certainly less painful than having to learn ourselves.

Although a portion of the material will quickly become dated, Susan has augmented the majority of the material with well placed online resources to help keep the traveler up-to-date. The tips offered are all very sensible, germane and presented in a condensed form. Like her travels, apparently, Susan appears quite adept to packing a lot into a small amount of space. The amount of information contained in this short 152 paperback is immense.

The book is organized into the broad travel related sections you would expect to find, such as transportation, accommodations, foods, communications, and money but it doesn't stop there. Ms Zaraysky has mixed in other ideas like packing, frequent flyer miles and health and safety. The result is a well rounded set of valuable ideas to help you in both planning and executing your travel plans.

What is most appealing about this book is that, out of the 200+ tips, I would be hard pressed to count more than a handful of thoughts that I would not find useful. Seriously, almost everything is applicable and is either a helpful hint or something you will want to take advantage of. They are almost universally valuable and thus, I can only highly recommend the book to travelers all over the world.
