Product Description

Looking for a travel guide that dares to be honest?
Unlike the cruise booklet that most Tour Operators send out with your booking, our Cruise Guide book tells you how it really is. Given from an experienced perspective that does not shy away from confronting the issues, it provides a valuable insight into what you can expect from a Nile Cruise by letting you know the scams, as well as the pleasures awaiting you on your Egyptian vacation.
Our Travel Egypt book offer straight answers, with sound advice and is illustrated with black and white photographs. It contains, amongst other things:
PRACTICAL ADVICE: Such as how to deal with hassle, unwanted attention, intimidation and illness. Plus, extra costs involved that you are rarely told about, local scams, bartering tips, things to avoid, etc.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Such as, medical advice, visa requirements, facts and figures, prices, boat facilities and layout, money matters, cruise schedules, safety issues, etc.
SUGGESTIONS: Such as, suitable clothing, useful Arabic phrases, local customs, local dishes and drinks etc.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Such as ancient sites, reviews, entertainment, extra excursions, useful links, free downloads etc.
The book tells you how it is, without over romanticising the experience, and contains information you would be hard pressed to find in one place. A must read for anyone planning, or thinking of taking an Egyptian Nile Cruise.

Just the Ticket 5 Sep 2011
By Louisa
Format:Paperback
As a first time traveller to Egypt I decided to purchase this book and wasn't disappointed. The author gave loads of useful tips especially regarding the boat and the local Egyptians. (As the author suggested I made sure I took my portable DVD player and used it nearly every night.) The book also went into enough detail about the history of the different sites to make them interesting. I was even able to answer some of the guide's questions correctly and was constantly referring to the pharaonic list as we travelled from one temple to another. Also from the information provided I knew exactly what I wanted to photograph at each site, which saved me a lot of time, especially in the fierce heat of the day, which at times made me feel quite ill. She also writes about the Egyptians fight for freedom, which I found a fascinating read.
I have just read a review here that said the book was written negatively but I didn't find it so. In my opinion the author is just telling you as much about the place and cruise as possible, including the good and the bad, so you are prepared for anything. It is obvious from the start of the book that she loves travelling to Egypt and says she never tires of visiting the sites and sailing the Nile. A sentiment I can agree with.
A reviewer also stated that the book contains a list of incidents/attacks that they thought were totally unnecessary. Again I have to disagree as I personally found the list particularly useful as it helped to put into perspective how little trouble there has been over the years - with only nine terrorist attacks between 1997 and 2011. Plus the list is tucked away at the end of the book so you don't have to read it if you don't want to. And as the author says, the statistics are just provided for those wanting this type of information and that millions travel to Egypt every year without encountering any trouble - including myself!
Personally I prefer to have as much info as possible, so I can make up my own mind, which the author provided. Plus it was great to get all the information I needed in one book which I could repeatedly refer to whilst on holiday, rather than scouring various sources for bits and bats.
A big thumbs up from me!!

Helped Me to Decide 7 Sep 2011
By Edna
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was a great help to me in deciding whether or not to travel to Egypt. Being of an age now where walking can become more of a chore than a pleasure I was very pleased to find the author had listed in quite some detail the problems people with moderate disability may encounter. After reading it I decided that with some help I would probably be able to cope and booked our holiday. I wasn't disappointed and apart from the climb up to the unfinished obelisk, which the book had warned me about, I managed ok. I didn't find much (if anything) about disability problems in other books so this book was a great help to me. One reviewer says the book is negative, I disagree and found it VERY informative with straight-talking practical advice and probably wouldn't have booked if I hadn't read it. 5 stars from me.

This book is the perfect first-time Nile traveller guide; this is a whimsical piece of work, full of anecdotes and personal accounts, and yet and at the same time packed with detail, historical information and statistics for the traveller to Egypt. In many ways these 'personalized' travel guides allow the reader to evaluate what they want to see and do for themselves, as it is like talking to a close friend who has been there already, which can be very reassuring for the first-time traveller. This book is also richly illustrated: thanks again for a well researched concept.
