Trapp had once been a naval officer - of a sort. But, after his career ended both abruptly and unofficially, his subsequent activities did little to endear him to his former employers. Nor, for that matter, did the clapped-out and rust-eroded ruin of a freighter which he owned seem likely to appeal to their Lordships of the Admiralty. Therefore it did seem both curious and unfair to Captain Trapp that the Royal Navy should abruptly requisition him to join them in the totally unprofitable conduct of World War II, Mediterranean Theatre. With bad grace, and little alternative, he consented - but to join in 'whose war? Their war?' The only war Trapp planned to fight was ... Trapp's War. And so the anything-but-good ship 'Charon' and her crew of bloody-minded drop-outs sailed to tackle the enemy single handed and, perhaps, to gather a few fringe benefits along their violently unconventional way.

[From The Back Flap] : ... BRIAN CALLISON was born in Manchester, 1934. Educated at High School of Dundee befiore entering merchant navy in 1950 as midshipman with Blue Funnel Line, sailing mainly on cargo liners to the Far East and Australia.

On leaving the sea he studied at Dundee College of Art. He has served several years in the territorial army with the 51st Highland Division Provost Company, Royal Military Police, and now maintains an active connection with the sea as Head of Unit, Royal Auxiliary Service.
