Book Description

7 Sep 2009
The underground hardcore scene of the mid to late 1980s was UK punk rock's last significant creative gasp. Emerging from the wreckage of the anarcho-punk scene spawned by the likes of Crass and Conflict, it took its influences from the studs 'n' leather punk bands of the early 1980s such as Discharge and GBH. These bands pushed musical boundaries into new avenues of extremity, helping to shape the alternative music scene of today. Trapped in a Scene is the long-awaited closing volume of Ian Glasper's celebrated trilogy on the UK punk scene of the 1980s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trapped In A Scene UK HC 9 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is yet another of Ian Glasper's insider accounts of the punk scene. As someone who has been active in the hardcore punk scene for decades I still find Ian's books a wonderful source of information, a great read, and they provide many of the answers as to why some people and bands just seemed to vanish of the face of the earth!
This book deals with the period from 1985 - 1989 which saw the emergence of a faster louder type of punk which the media dubbed Britcore and most of the people involved didn't!
This is an incredible book which is full of candid interviews with the people in the bands and the labels that helped spread this music round the world.
Pretty much everyone is covered here: from Napalm Death who got to be so famous that your Granny knows the name; to the Scum Dribblurzzz who were so DIY they wouldn't even accept expenses when they played!
If you were a part of the scene at the time it's worth buying just to see what your `so called' friends are saying about you now!
If you have any sort of interest in fast loud music then this book is a great resource and may even turn you on to a few bands that you would otherwise have missed out on.

3.0 out of 5 stars for crusties only... 14 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
as an old 77 punk who's stuck with it through to the current day and beyond, this was the worst period for the music in my opinion,a lot of the bands in here i saw back in the mid/late 80's at venues such as cardiff transport club, newport tj's,cardiff bristol hotel and more...if i ever see Doom again,i think i'll top myself...lots of tales of getting drunk, squatting and general tales of the great un-washed...what fun it was to see tramp punks lying in the gutter pissed outside gigs at about 8pm...a few of the bands featured were of course exceptions, the mighty HDQ--shame they never captured their live sound on record.Cowboy Killers--the 2nd greatest welsh punk band of all time,Joyce Mckinney Experience,Abs,Ripcord and a couple more...as for the rest ENT,Hellbastard,Doom,Deviated Instinct,Anihilated etc....their stories in here are as boring and un-inspiring as their music was, metal this, crust that,'i was pissed 'stories abound--wow !!!!...the book gets 3 stars because of the obvious hard work that's gone into this, and cos the author is one of the genuine nice guys...without doubt the poorest of the three books he's done...vive le punk...
