Book Description

The compelling new novel from the author of Tainted.

Product Description

Everyone has to live with their past, but no one should be haunted by it...

Ellie Walters is determined to get back on her feet after the break-up of her marriage. Now living on Cape Cod with her increasingly angry and troubled teenage son, Tim, she tentatively believes they can build a new life together. And when Ellie finds herself falling for her new neighbour's son, Joe, she feels she can at last move on.

Until, one day, elements connected to a tragic event in Ellie's past - an event she has never been able to come to terms with - start appearing. It seems that someone is determined to make her suffer, all over again. Whilst a misunderstanding drives a rift between her and Joe and her relationship with Tim threatens to deteriorate completely, a confused and frightened Ellie seems powerless to stop what seems increasingly like a terrifying campaign of persecution. And Ellie is faced with the horrifying possibility that she'll be trapped in this nightmare for ever...

Great second novel 4 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
I understand that second novels are notoriously difficult for authors, but there is no sign of that in this fantastically well-judged and pacy thriler

The characterisations are superb and you immediately feel empathy for the stressed single-mother, Ellie who is trying to make a fresh start.

The new beginning seems to go well. Ellie is in Cape Cod - a part of the world she loves (although that isn't a view immediately shared by her teenage son)and she makes a good friend very quickly, but then strange and unpleasant "coincidences" begin to occur and the idyllic life she had planned appears to be turning into an impossibie dream, as her troubled past comes back to haunt her.

The twists and turns of the plot meant that I couldn't be sure who was tormenting her unil the very end and just when you think that the novel has ended, Ms Morgan gives us an epilogue which provides even more intrigue

Can't wait for the third book.

I stayed up into the early hours of the morning reading this and couldn't get to sleep afterwards. This is an excellent, gripping, fast paced novel about a divorced woman and her son in Cape Cod. The characters are honest, flawed, endearing and believable. I loved the funny and warm neighbour Louisa. I was taken aback by the ending - having anticipated a different outcome. This was better. The book also went beyond the typical thriller book as it exposed more interesting themes of relationships and families - and even the awkwardness of first dates. Highly recommended.

I'm totally amazed by these reviews. I read them before buying the book which just added to the disappointment!
No disrespect to any of the reviewers, we all have differnt tastes but I'm going to be brave here and swim very much against the tide.

The style of writing was decent, which kept me going for a while, but I was very aware that the book was progressing but not the story. Coincidences abound unpleasantly such as the dearly missed neighbour being instantly replaced by the NEW fab dearly loved neighbour. Until the truth is revealed in chapter 26 (of 34) I really had very little interest in the story because nothing much happens, except for the main character being frightened and having panic attacks a few times. Having trawled through the first 300 pages, I was fairly apathetic about who the villan was. The book didn't make me care, at all.

It's just a tale of a divorcee moving to a new area with her son whose having a bit of a hard time due to his parents recent divorce. With a fairly uninteresting and watery plot involving torment.

The epilogue is a strange one, but it didn't make me doubt who the villan was, which I felt had been it's purpose.
