The Transparent Language Premium Edition for the Spanish language offers a whole range of well constructed and well thought through learning aids for learning and mastering the Spanish language. The course covers all aspects of mastering a language - covering vocabulary, writing, speaking, pronunciation, reading, conversation, listening and grammar.
The course can be taken at leisure, or as part of an intensive course; taking the user through a whole host of very involved and in-depth lessons. The user is presented with easy-to-use word snippets both written and spoken, entire texts of written words which can be dissected at will, conversational games, pronunciation help (by recording your own voice), fun games & tests and online help and support. All of this in a simple, cleverly broken down way that allows for quick and easy access for whenever you want to pick up the next lesson.
The programme also tracks and records your learning status, showing the user their progress and how fresh certain topics that have been covered are. The entire course is broken down into separate books; each one with their own sections, which in turn have their very own sub-sections and tests.
All in all, the package is exactly what you would want for a `teach-yourself-Spanish' course. The lessons are presented in an easy and enjoyable format, with many different features to keep the learning fresh and fun.
Parts of the course can also be uploaded on to an iPod allowing for you to learn whilst on the move.
Installation is a doddle and takes just 5 minutes to install. The programme does take up a lot of space on your hard-drive (approx 4GB), so make sure that you have enough free space before installing. The whole course is installed from just one DVD which comes inside a cardboard wallet.

At first I was disappointed when I opened the packaging. Expecting a book to go with the PC software, all I got was a flimsy leaflet.
However, after now using the software on my PC (Windows 7) and on the iPhone I can safely say it's one of the better language learning packages I've used.
Unlike many other software learning tools the menu system doesn't feel dated and has no problems working with Windows 7. The fresh, clean approach to the menus makes it easy to navigate through the course. The course is pretty comprehensive too with Grammar, verbs and day to day conversations covered through a range of activities. It's definitely aimed at someone who really wants to learn Spanish rather than just picking up a few words for their holiday.
The iPhone/MP3 tool works as a series of podcasts. With the iPhone/iPod Touch you get the benefit of having pictures and the names of the phrase on the screen while you listen. It's ideal for listening on the bus or while you're away from your PC and compliments the main course well.

My wife has really got on very well with this program. She is using it in addition to other learning courses and has found it very simple to use in comparison and enjoyable to work through.
The voice samples used are very good and the ability to self test your knowledge at whatever point you like is very useful too.
It won't take you into the realms of being fluent in Spanish, but there isn't a product out there that will do that for you.
For what this program sets out to do, it is probably as good as it gets.
