The CD-ROM is an immersion program so all the instructions are in Spanish. Younger children who are not so confident with the basics of the language may need adult support. More confident children will quickly pick up what they are expected to do and will be able to work independently through the games. There is a very useful help option that explains in English the choice of games--in case any parents are defeated while helping their children.
There are five modules each containing a range of games and a song to consolidate the vocabulary that has been introduced. Most of the games can be played at three different levels of difficulty. The games include activities such as identifying fruit, colouring fruit in a certain colour, pairs games with pictures and words, putting certain objects into a rucksack, identifying animals, ordering pictures, setting given times on clocks etc.
A wide range of vocabulary is consolidated such as numbers, the alphabet, animals, times, colours, fruits and vegetables, the weather, transport and leisure activities. There is a very useful illustrated audio-dictionary, in case a child is unsure of a word. A set of online activities, which can be printed out, will also help to consolidate what children have learnt.
KidSpeak Spanish would be a very useful buy for any child (512) who is learning Spanish at school, or for a parent who wants to help introduce their child to the language. The games, songs and puzzles would help to consolidate a wide range of vocabulary in a simple and fun way. --Amanda York

ABC covers the alphabet.
123 covers numbers including sums.
Animals covers common animals (pets, farm and garden). This section also covers body parts (arms legs etc).
Backpack covers household items, fruits, colours, holiday stuff, my things and school stuff.
Birthday Cake covers greetings (hellos goodbyes etc), telling time, days and months.
Pepa is the cartoon character (along with her horse) who explains and plays the games with you - all in spanish. This immersion technique is considered to be the best method for learning languages - my 4 year old son had no problem understanding how to play the games as they are straight forward and familiar (ie tic tac toe). There are help pages in english for each game that explain what the buttons on screen do - although this does not explain the rules it does give you some clue if you are not sure what to do. Also each game has a chalkboard where all the vocabulary for that game can be seen and heard which is helpful to reaffirm what is being covered.
There are songs to listen to for each category and cartoon sequences between selections which add to the fun of the whole experience. The animation can be abit silly but my son thinks its funny and enjoys it all.
My son really has alot fun with this software and is picking up spanish words very quickly. He finds it easy to navigate around the games so I tend to leave him to it and am suprised on my return as to how many words he remembers and answers correctly through the games. Even my 2 year old will watch and listen, often repeating the words he hears.
My only reservation would be if I was considering this software for an older child. The age rating is 5 - 13, but I am not sure that children at the top end of the range would find the cartoons and games engaging enough to keep them interested. For younger children it is great - simple enough for them to pick up quickly so they do not lose interest and the levels increase in dificulty to keep them going.
As I bought this for my 4 year old I have given it 5 stars. If it had been for an older child eg 12 year old, I probably would of given it less.
