Product Description

Argues that the subjective evaluation of the product must give way to a descriptive and objective attempt to reveal the workings of the process (ie translating). Without such a shift, translation theory will continue outside the mainstream of intellectual activity in human sciences and fail to take its rightful place as a major field in applied Linguistics.

By Marta
Format:Paperback
However experienced and academically excellent Roger T. Bell might be, he certainly suffers from a sort of exclusive, isolated way of thinking, which practically prevents him from formulating comprehensible and approachable texts.
I'm not saying that it isn't worth reading. It is, if you find some joy in analysing graphs for 30 minutes or so, or figuring out explanations which are even dimmer than terms. It really might be interesting, if you have a lifetime to read it, bit by bit once a while. The condensation of information is otherwise too high to digest the text. It is a very heavily theoretical book, drawing on most obscure and sophisticated communication theories.
Roger T. Bell touches a vast range of problems, one might say: too vast.
It is a heavy read. Full of useful information, but it takes ages to extract anything from his 'high-end' writing style.
