5.0 out of 5 stars A Unique Book!!, 18 Feb 2003
By
This review is from: Transgender Underground: London and the Third Sex (Paperback)
During the year 2000, multimedia artist Claudia Andrei embarked on an ambitious personal assignment-to explore and characterize a culture that's often overlooked. She immersed herself in the world of London's transgender community, going to transvestite clubs, visiting her models and photographing them and hanging out in the TG community.

Her book represents two years of research involving carefully structured, in-depth personal interviews with seventeen of her subjects ranging from transvestites, transexuals, drag queens and androgynes chosen for this unique book. With a striking photo on the glossy cover. Inside, the photos, both colour and black and white are all engaging and the text conveys a diversity of individuals with a corresponding variety of stories.

This book will give you an understanding of the true nature of what being transgendered is all about. It is a remarkable reading experience packed with information and insight. A 'must read' for anyone with an interest in the gender bending scene.

I shall cherish this book forever!!

5.0 out of 5 stars illuminating look at a misunderstood world, 9 Jan 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Transgender Underground: London and the Third Sex (Paperback)
This is quite a book. Claudia Andrei's Transgender Underground provides a much needed insight into a shadowy community that all too often is misrepresented by press and public alike. Andrei's artworks, several of them reproduced in colour, show her subjects off at their most engaging and flamboyant. Her interviews with them, meanwhile - presented as straightforward 'statements' rather than as laborious Q and A sessions - are just as engaging, frequently funny and always illuminating. Highly recommended.
