A great introduction to the Movie continuity world, largely full of character profiles and a small amount of backstory. It is notable for its brevity and what it lacks.

As usual, the production standard from Dorling Kindersley is very high, despite the rather dull cover design. The book is a glossy and well produced set of character profiles in much the same style as the old Marvel Universe comics. Key Transformers scribe Simon Furman once again acts as our guide througout and with each character we get a good run down on their personality,powers and abilities. There's also some concise coverage of other elements of the Transformers; things such as 'Trans-scanning'and recaps on the previous movie. Accompanying the text are some great images of the 'bots themselves, showing off all the intricacies that you miss on screen.

The major failing of the book is in missing out characters from the first movie (Boncrusher and Brawl) and padding out a lot of the book with double page spreads and film stills. Launching the book ahead of the release of Revenge Of The Fallen means that a sizeable portion of the new 'bots do not feature, presumably to avoid spoilers and due to contractual licensing issues.

So despite the excellent writing, its difficult to recommend this as an essential buy. Particularly when you realise that if the image count was cut down, you'd have a very slender volume indeed. Worth waiting for this to be remaindered or available at a sizeable discount.
