Furman's new take of the TF universe displays far more maturity than the Budiansky days of old. No storylines involving a rock concert or wrestling match here. Oooooh no no no. Instead, Furman is developing an epic Star Wars style science fiction saga aimed at those who remember and love the old TF comics, but only read them nowadays for a nostalgia kick rather than to be enveloped in a great tale.
And a great tale is what we have here. Stormbringer continues (well, kind of) the story started in the fantastic Infiltration collection, minus the human characters and introducing a plethora of robot personalities. The desperation of the Autobot's efforts shines through, and the Decepticons are shown as far less two dimensional than the evil baddies of yesteryear.
Revealing plot points would be irresponsible, but the new direction taken with Cybertron is superb. The old ideas reborn thing is like Batman Begins, only with two tonne robots kicking the crap out of each other. I love it and I hope it continues for a very, very long time.
