From Amazon.co.uk

The Transformers series (Tatakae Cho Robot Seimetai Transformers, or Fight Super Living Robots Transformers) was written in America, but animated in Japan. Based on a line of robots from Takara that was licensed to Hasbro, Transformers sparked a craze for metamorphic toys in the mid-80s. Each robot-character could be reconfigured to form a car, a tank, a plane, and so on. The 24 episodes in this collection, which ran between 1985 and 1986, conclude the second season and lead up to Transformers 2006. Each episode forms a self-contained story, with little in the way of larger character arcs or plot developments tying them together. Although the cast has expanded, the Autobots remain the good guys who defeat the bad guy Decepticons, and no-one expects anything else. Although the character designs and animation are Japanese, the direction is pure American saturday morning: instead of creating effective transitions, the filmmakers just cut to a shot of the logo--a standard practice in Hanna-Barbera kidvid. Websites, role-playing games, fan fiction, and a brisk commerce in the original toys have kept Transformers alive in the hearts of their fans. But like Robotech, Transformers will appeal most strongly to nostalgic adults who watched the show as kids. --Charles Solomon

The original Transformers series from the eighties in itself is very great and entertaining.
The DVD release is very good, brilliant picture, crisp sound. The menues are well animated, with the original theme playing in the background.
For this a price a must-go for all Transformers fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Erroll! Run VT!! 12 Jun 2012

These used to be on during the Roland Rat show in the 80's hence the title of my review and like the previous cartoons they bring back a lot of memories. Leading up to the animated movie, this 2nd half of season 2 introduces new characters good and bad and again good fun though you have to wonder why it took Megatron so long to destroy Starscream who finally gets his comeuppance in the movie despite years of plotting and scheming to overthrow Megatron and somehow nearly always gets away with his treachery!! A good fun watch especially if you were a fan of these classic cartoons.

Season 2 has been regarded by many as the best season of the original Transformers G1 series, from an all-round storyline/animation perspective. There's certainly a lot going for it. Boasting a whopping 49 episodes and at the peak of its popularity, the original animated series then took the chance to explore and expand in radical, stunning and creative ways.

The first season had established the premise of the Transformers' war; how they departed from Cybertron and came to Earth, how the Autobots encountered their human friends/allies and how the Decepticons were able to create their Space Bridge etc. The second season proceeded to develop the colourful cast/setting even further, as well introduce a brand new array of fabulous characters, and take that first bold look into the origins of the Transformers and their war.

Volume One of the Season 2 boxsets (containing the first 24 episodes of said-season) showcased more of old fan-favourites the Dinobots, the Insecticons & the Constructicons, introduced the likes of popular newcomers Carly (Spike's girlfriend), Blaster, Perceptor, the Decepticon Triple-Changers (Blitzwing & Astrotrain) and Omega Supreme (among others), and also showed how the war kicked off and how the Cybertronians were first able to Transform. For this second volume (featuring the remaining 25 episodes), even MORE brand new, unforgettable characters are introduced, the wonderful looks into Cybertron's past are expanded upon, and for the first time, we're actually treated to the amazing ORIGIN of Optimus Prime.

Volume 2 continues the overall trend of being deep, exciting and meaningful. Characters you wouldn't normally give a second thought receive the spotlight to show-off their personality in various one-offs (i.e.

Bought this because I use to watch Transformers when I was young. It's still a good cartoon even though it was made in the 80's.
