Worthy addition to your collection, 17 Dec 2008
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
I received my Blackout today, and he is already one of my favourites. He looks superb in either robot or helicopter guise, and is fairly easy to transform, even though he is a Level 3. The instructions aren't overly helpful, though! As a bonus, you also get a little Scorponok, who can be kept in a cage in either of Blackout's forms. The detail to the item is excellent, and i'd highly recommend him to any Transformers fan.

Has it really been over a year since the 2007 movie came out? How time flies.
The movie line has been winding down for a while now with it mostly being reduced to repaints, the second movie is due out next year or so so it will likely be revived soon.
Okay so on with the review. Blackout was one of the first Transformers in the 2007 movie, he laned on an army base, transformed and pretty much beat the life of the base and it's soldiers. Later on in the movie he had a short appearance during the final battle.
Now when he was shown on the screen, he looked powerful and very big. Even his profile states that he's one of the largest Decepticons, but sadly his toy is pretty small. He really did deserve a leader class scale, that's for sure.
Okay, here goes: Alt mode: His alt mode is a chinook helicopter, like the kind that the army use, US army mostly I believe. His detail is excellent, especially the premium version which I'm reviewing. Although a lot of detail wasn't shown in the movie, what detail was shown has been well re-created with this toy.
The colours are well handled, if it weren't for the gaps and lines and rotor trigger on the tail, you would think he was a model it's that well done.
He comes with a mini Scorponok figure that is placed in a cage on the aft section of the alt mode, in bot mode it can be switched around.
Sadly though his main flaw is his rotors, they do pop off a little easily, also his front section doesn't always stay in place, a small clasp would have been good there.
Other than his flaws though, he looks great in this mode and has a good weight, he's not all that heavy.
Robot mode: His transformation is somewhat easy, there might be problems at first, but once you've got the hang of it, it's pretty simple. His auto transformation is the head part, which is mostly flipping the front part round, and his legs. It's not all that well done though.
Once you've got him in bot mode, he might be hard to pose since his parts don't fully stay connected unless you take the time to note the way he's moving as you transform him.
His tail fin acts as a back support, his back is a little heavy, and his weapons are just a case of turning and flipping two of the top parts to show missiles.
The colours in this mode are pretty good, I would have to watch the movie again to see if they're movie accurate, but they look accurate. He just seems so small though, he really would have suited a leader class.
Worth getting? Yes and no, he looks great, he's a lot of fun for adults and kids and for a collector, I would have to say that he fits in well.
But he has flaws that could have been easily fixed if they hadn't been in such a rush to get the movie line out last year.
Also deluxe movie Scorponok can be added to his under carriage, I think I'll try and get him as soon as I can, if the prices come down because they're much too steep as it is.
Enjoy.
