Originally published back in the early nineties, "All Fall Down" (and its sequel "End Of The Road") collects the last dozen or so issues of the American Transformers comic. At the time it was published, Transformers popularity was waning. The writer, Simon Furman, was a veteran of the UK Transformers comic book, having written a huge amount of material to supplement the US reprints, and began writing for the US book at this late stage in its run. This book begins in the midst of a long running storyline drawing on years of the British book's continuity, which could make it a little hard for first time readers to pick up the story, but it is well worth the effort. Telling the story of the chaos god Unicron's assault on Cybertron, this strip really breaks the mold for liscenced properties. No longer restricted by the toy company, Furman was free to take great liberties, killing off many major characters in the process. The storytelling is epic in scope, and remarkably mature for what was, obsensibly, a childrens book. The art, by british artists Andy Wildman, Steven Baskerville and Geoff Senior, is of an exceptonally high standard, and the colouring by Nel Yomtov is far superior to his work earlier on in the series. All in all, this is an excellent book, highly reccomended to fans of Transformers or just comics fans in general, and should not be thought of as a simple children's book.
