Product Description

Transformational Ministry starts with a straightforward statement: \"the purpose of our common ministry is the transformation of persons into the likeness of this Jesus Christ whom humanity crucified and God raised from the dead.\" The book looks at: The importance of character rather than technique Our model for ministry Clarity of purpose Conflict and the ministry of hope The strength to persist The joyful ministry to which God calls us This book takes an ecumenical look at the role of leadership in Christian ministry. Whether at worship, in a committee meeting, addressing children or providing pastoral care, the great goal of ministry is the transformation of persons into the likeness of Jesus Christ. The author deals with many practical and spiritual issues including: what it means to be a minister in today's world; and how, despite their own problems and conflicts, ministers can offer others the best care.

A necessary book for any parish pastor 5 Aug 2008
By A. Ballentine - Published on Amazon.com
This is a very short book. It is, page for page, the most important and helpful book I have read on what it means to be a pastor.

I have been a Lutheran pastor for nearly 30 years. On the one hand, I wish this book would have been written when I was beginning my ordained ministry, because there is so much addressed to the pastor who is starting out. But, on the other hand, in those early years I would not have had the experience to understand the significance of what Jinkins writes about! Another way of saying it: these are pages that would be useful and instructive and inspirational for a pastor over and over again, as s/he encounters the experiences that make up a pastoral career.

Jinkins fills this book with Biblical imagery and quotes from deep and wide Christian tradition, from Chrysostom to Calvin to Gregory the Great, from CS Lewis to Henri Nouwen to Eugene Peterson.

As Jinkins puts it, "The question we ask in these pages is: 'How ... can we say that Christ provides our model for ministry, ministry in the way of the cross, not a ministry merely of vested interest and jealous professionalism, but ministry that is poured out without reservation in the hope that God will provide what is needed, in the incredible hope that we can be partners with God in God's miraculous work of transforming persons!'"
