TRANSFERENCE STATION (Book two in the 'Sliding Void' series)

DESCRIPTION

Are things finally looking up for Captain Lana Fiveworlds? She's managed to reach what passes for civilization in the wild border systems of the Edge - Transference Station - the largest trading hub in the free worlds. With her ramshackle starship, the Gravity Rose, safely docked, she's now desperately searching for a cargo to stave off bankruptcy.

Lana's crew needs paying - including the amorous barbarian prince she rescued from a failed colony world. But her crew have other priorities: the ship's android, Zeno, is distracted by terrible secrets from his past, while her alien navigator, Polter, runs into trouble indulging his religious fervor.

If that wasn't enough, there's a deal available... but only from the dodgiest broker in a thousand planets. With rival starship captains looking to sabotage Lana for good, and a dangerous mission to a mysterious planet which is far more than the lies she's been spun, things can only get worse from here on in.

Lana Fiveworlds and her crew of misfits are still sliding void, just, but for how much longer?

Sometimes, the brown stuff piles up so high you need antigravity thrusters to fly over it.

More About the Author

Stephen Hunt is a genre author who lives in Spain and the UK (scifi, crime and thrillers). He is best known for his best-selling Jackelian series of novels from HarperCollins, also the publisher of J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis in the UK.

The Jackelian world is a fantasy adventure set in a far-future Earth where the passage of time has erased almost all memory of our current world from history. Electricity is now unreliable and classed as a dark power, with many of the nations of the world existing at a Victorian level of development and relying on steam-power, mechanical nanotechnology and biotechnology to survive and prosper.

It is a world of strange creatures, flashing blades, steammen servants, airship battles and high adventure.

Each novel is written as a stand-alone work, but share the same world and many of the same characters who criss-cross between the novels (a technique shared with fellow British fantasy author Terry Pratchett and his Discworld series).

Foreign language and international editions of the six novels of the Jackelian series have been sold to Tor Books (USA), Albin Michel (France), Verlagsgruppe Random House (Germany), Enterbrain Manga and Anime (Japan), Edições Saída de Emergência (Portugal), Paidós (Spain), AST (Russia), and the Anhui Literature and Art Publishing House (China).

Stephen maintains his own web site over at www.StephenHunt.net and when he is not writing, he can be found indulging in such interests as cooking, gardening, collecting comic-books, and building his collections of genre novels.

This series of novella is riviting. The development of characters and backdrop draw you into the story that is unfolding. Very easy read as the science fiction and future setting are very accessable and logical. Makes you feel at home on the Rose without sitting through the sims that Calder has!
Can't wait for the next in the series.

Great series this, reading it feels like your watching a TV mini-series. There's hero's, there's villains', mysterious alien races and hot chicks. It covers most aspects of interstellar travel well and as I say does read like a good TV series, For the price you shouldn't feel short changed, yes its a novella but it's a fun way to spend a few hours and on a cost to enjoyment ratio I think its worthwhile.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and cheerful 16 Dec 2013

An easy read, that hits all the right notes, though not necessarily in the right order. Could have done with proper editing, but for what it is, at this price, very enjoyable.
