Kraftwerk - The Catalogue

Biography

Kraftwerk (German pronunciation: [ˈkʀaftvɛʁk]), German for power plant or power station, is an electronic music band from Düsseldorf, Germany. The group was formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in 1970, and was fronted by them until Schneider's departure in 2008. The signature Kraftwerk sound combines driving, repetitive rhythms with catchy melodies, mainly following a Western Classical… Read more in Amazon's Kraftwerk Store

By Tim Kidner TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
The LP of this was played to death by me in my bedroom, as a teenager. It took me on a journey - an electro trip into the future, the past and through the other side. My angst and worries melted away...

It was the way the whole of side 2 of the LP seemlessly moved with the pulsating rhythm of the train and chugged its way right through. The romantic narrative of travel, station by station whisked me off to places only seen in black and white films. Running through Metal on Metal was some of the best SFX, certainly in their day as the percussive pounding was added in ever ascending layers. Finally, the Trans Europe Express, after hurtling across the Siberian wastes slows to a halt....

Other Kraftwerk albums are more commercial. Man Machine is an album full of singles, Computer World is about gizmos and bitty synth hooks and others are just more uneven in both listenability and sheer quality.

Tschoo-tschtsch-tschooo-tsch...the Europe Express rolls in and straight into your brain, and there's no escape, never ever more. Yeah, actually, this is the prototype synthie-pop album. Cool, clear and reduced to its raw core, this elaborate work of skillfully conceived computer music will creep and stick into your mind.
Apart from other Kraftwerk masterpieces, this electronic sound landscape was frame and foundation for almost every synth-pop music to come. It's a must for each and every fan of this musical genre. Never ever was electronic pop music so dense and direct, ascending to a compelling acoustic force in delivering only striking essentials of bonding beats and mighty melodies.
Definitely, this work of modern art is the catchiest and most danceable sound wonder the German wunderkinder in the 1970s.

Fantastic! 1 Jan 2010

I bought this for my sister for xmas. She had the LP over 25 years ago. It sounds amazing on CD and we enjoyed the journey, recognising all those hypnotic tunes we had forgotten! They outclass a lot of todays melodies. If you liked Kraftwerk back in the early 80s and liked Man Machine, you will LOVE Trans Europe Express. You will wake up with the melodies playing away in your head!Buy it!
