Book Description

A relentlessly paced thriller in which nothing is what it seems, no one can be trusted, and nothing is secure - especially one's own memory

Product Description

A promising young research fellow for a venerable think tank in Zurich has just filed his last report, as he is forced into a ghastly experiment- A seductive young woman travels to Florida and from her hotel room coolly sharpshoots a dying old man in a wheelchair- A psychologist who helps patients confront and dispel past trauma through hypnosis battles his own silent but emergent demons. In Trance State John Case combines these elements into a pulse-pounding, mind-twisting new thriller. Just what is the connection between the research fellow, the young assassin and the psychologist? And, after the young woman kills herself, why should her sister trust anyone who might have been involved with her? And when unknown assassins burst into the psychologist's office, who is their target - him or the young woman's sister? And where is the deadly trail into the CIA's mind-control experiments leading them? Could this be another trap? Or could they be about to unearth a great and secret conspiracy at the heart of the Intelligence communities around the world and the deadly, dangerous people they employ?

I was recommended this book by a my brother and I must say the book is a page turner right until the end.BUT THERE ARE FLAWS!The main character Duran is so bland and boring sometimes you just want to tear your hair out at how stupid he is especially near the end.Billio the private detective you'll love and you will be routing for him, but not giving the story away the author makes a big mistake. This character should have had more time in the novel.Apart from these flaws, the author though does write well and his research is extensive and it's an intresting topic that makes you think - it's a modern day Manchurian candidate. It's a good beach book that will have Case fans and others ploughing through it.Read away but don't expect too much.

Overall I'd suggest this book as a very good read for those who like thrillers with some psychology in them.

This book played on my nerves a bit and the author made me furious about just how stupid can characters be sometimes. I find it a great feature of this book! Maybe I am just a bit tired of almighty and super-logical heroes (if that's also the case with you - read this book! It's worth it)!

I suppose the author has made a bit of a research in trance formation & psychology, which makes this book somewhat realistic when it comes to description of interpersonal communication.

BUT the end!!! Well... I think that final chapters just don't fit in into the story line and that's the reason to give this book 4 stars. Other then this, it well deserves a 5.

The author, John Case, has told a great story with this book. For me it was a page turner without doubt.

If thrillers with a physiological twist are to your liking then I feel that this is a must. I agree with an earlier review that it was a shame for at least one of the characters to be prematurely "ended" but nevertheless it is still a great read.
