Product Description

Don't let them inside your head. Don't let them play their mind games with you. Because they're merciless. And they'll kill to win...The Swiss-based Institute of Global Studies seems like the kind of philanthropic body any idealistic young scientist would want to work for. But when Lew McBride gets involved with them, his life takes a horrific turn. Something terrible is happening in Adrienne Cope's life, too. Her sister has died in mysterious circumstances. The only clues about what might have happened are locked away in a psychiatrist's files. And when she investigates, she discovers that the psychiatrist, while no figment of her imagination, doesn't exit. What is it that connects Lew McBride, Adrienne Cope, the psychiatrist and the Institute together? What takes Adrienne and the psychiatrist on a terrifying chase across the USA and Europe? Why should the CIA get involved? And why does the body-count start to rise alarmingly? Trance State is the spellbinding new thriller from the author of the international bestsellers The Genesis Code and The First Horseman. Chilling in its authenticity, relentless in its page-turning pace, Trance State is a novel that will have you praying that it's only fiction.

From the Publisher

A relentlessly paced thriller in which nothing is what it seems, no one can be trusted, and nothing is secure - especially one's own memory --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read but the characters lack depth, 29 Aug 2003

I was recommended this book by a my brother and I must say the book is a page turner right until the end.BUT THERE ARE FLAWS!The main character Duran is so bland and boring sometimes you just want to tear your hair out at how stupid he is especially near the end.Billio the private detective you'll love and you will be routing for him, but not giving the story away the author makes a big mistake. This character should have had more time in the novel.Apart from these flaws, the author though does write well and his research is extensive and it's an intresting topic that makes you think - it's a modern day Manchurian candidate. It's a good beach book that will have Case fans and others ploughing through it.Read away but don't expect too much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Readable & suggestable, 1 Oct 2005

Overall I'd suggest this book as a very good read for those who like thrillers with some psychology in them.

This book played on my nerves a bit and the author made me furious about just how stupid can characters be sometimes. I find it a great feature of this book! Maybe I am just a bit tired of almighty and super-logical heroes (if that's also the case with you - read this book! It's worth it)!

I suppose the author has made a bit of a research in trance formation & psychology, which makes this book somewhat realistic when it comes to description of interpersonal communication.

BUT the end!!! Well... I think that final chapters just don't fit in into the story line and that's the reason to give this book 4 stars. Other then this, it well deserves a 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, 18 April 2011

The author, John Case, has told a great story with this book. For me it was a page turner without doubt.

If thrillers with a physiological twist are to your liking then I feel that this is a must. I agree with an earlier review that it was a shame for at least one of the characters to be prematurely "ended" but nevertheless it is still a great read.
