Format:Audio CD
I'm a HUGE fan of above and beyond their own album as well as the oceanlab album are awesome!! they've captured what trance sounds like today in two cds and this mix is just amazing!! in a world where the clubland cds have taken over a PROPER trance album is just what i've been waiting for there's not a bad track on here. If you love real trance then buy this today!!!

Format:Audio CD
One of my most treasured CDs ever is the MOS Annual from 1998 or something like that (with the blue cover, mixed by Boy George but not available anymore). I used to REALLY rate the MOS annual as it always had brilliant music on it. Unfortunately this is not so for the past 8 years or so, in fact, I have come to see the Ministry of Sound annual as guaranteed to hold the most pathetic, cheap and childish music the scene has to offer and this is also the case for Trance Nation. Ministry cds used to be the best of the most recent music but they have undoubtedly sold out to what I can only describe as youth pop rubbish. But I digress...
The only reason I bought this CD is because it was mixed by Above and Beyond (and since I discovered them I buy everything they produce [although was sorely disappointed with Vol. 7 - see review there]).
I have to say, it's the best thing that Ministry have put out in YEARS (what I've bothered to listen to at least) and it's a STUPENDOUS album!
Referring to CD 1 - it reads like a good book! I never ever skip straight to my favourite track but enjoy listening from the beginning of the cd every time and I never get half way and get bored. It has the perfect amount of vocals in it, the beats are hard and punchy but brilliantly melodic. I WISH A&B would produce more stuff like this!!!
CD 2 is good, not brilliant but good. The tracks are a little bit disjointed and not quite as musical as CD 2 but that's just down to taste I am sure. Unfortunately I have yet to find a double cd which I find CD 1 and CD 2 equally good but there you go.
If you're umming and uhhhing between Vol. 7 or this, then get this if you like to feel energised by your music and you want to have good vocals and superb variety of music to listen to. (Vol 7 has little or no vocal).

It's no industry secret that Oceanlab is really Above abd Beyond, and when you get the chance to mix a Trance Nation set you're not going to leave out your own pet project - as A&B have done here. This could pass for an Anjunabeats mix, except the mixes are a little crisper and heavier. The trio have a great talent for this happy, summerday, euphoric style of trance, the downside is that so many mixes are beginning to sound like identikit releases. Some of the early Anjunabeats CDs are actually being cross-promoted on the Godskitchen franchise in other countries, so it's beginning to look like there's profit in this here musick. Just such a shame the Oceanlab promotion should be so blatant, at the expense of other artists - Oceanlab has THREE of its big tracks featured here. If it wasn't such a good sound I'd really feel like hunting down some obscure website and making a written complaint...like people do when they just want to air their annoyance, knowing no one on the planet will ever take any notice.

Fantastic CD.Had 1 or 2 similar for Christmas but this has to be my favorite.Was hooked as soon as I put it on.

Above & Beyond know how to do it
An outstanding mix of 29 great trance tracks. I've yet to see Above & Beyond spin a set live - this CD has made me want it more than ever. Fabulous.

Mostly good, some electro-trash
