Coming from the original trance nation CD by Ferry Corsten you can feel a bit disgusted with the trash produced now that calls itself trance, the above and beyond 2011 trance nation CD is a good example, a couple of real highlights (Oliver Smith's remix of Ashes for example), but mostly mind numbing over-produced garbage.
This one was very promising with the opening track, and then after about track 4 goes down hill. However, over time I've really grown to like this CD. It's not up there with the all time greats like Matt Darey's pure Euphoria, but it's also a different kettle of fish.
If you like modern trance (and I do like the new stuff thats good) this is actually a really nice CD. It's got a fairly dark and haunting theme throughout, which makes a nice change from the happy clappy stuff you hear from Arty and the likes, though it's got it's fair share of cheese I guess.
You could do a lot worse, and overall it's an enjoyable CD to listen to, which is what matters when your in the car, playing some video games or chilling in a lounge.
