This book is a very comprehensive guide for any one planning to go "Tramping in New Zealand" covering everything from water tablets to water tables coastal day walks to five day alpine crossings, with excellent chapters on tramping facts and health and safety, each included walk is given equal priority with maps and sugested itineraries and transport sugestions. A great read for those cold nights in the tent.

This guidebook provides good advice on the major walking routes in New Zealand, but very little gets mentioned in the blurb about the seasons when the walks can be carried out. Having come to NZ in their winter, only two of the walks are possible, the others being on paths closed or too dangerous in snowy conditions.
Still good for summer though!

A good overview 30 Dec 2009
By Koyuki
Format:Paperback
This compact volume covers a good variety of New Zealand walks. The information is generally up to date and is well organised: even though the edition is around 3 years old it is certainly suitable for planning. Even though the information provided is reasonably comprehensive, it should be supplemented with detailed maps (Department of Conservation) and recent local knowledge- this observation would apply even if the edition was more recent.
