5.0 out of 5 stars This will make you a stronger cyclist, 3 Dec 2007
By Tony Higgins (UK) - See all my reviews

This was an invaluable assist to me as an beginner coming into the sport and wanting to make up for lost time.

Within the first month of using the training approach and workouts set out in this book I had added 40 watts to my threshold power and could see clearly what I needed to do to further improve the range of capabilities needed to compete in my chosen event.

The book includes very specific workouts for training your different systems and also includes detailed testing protocols to help ensure that you are training at the right intensities for you. The book also includes a comparative power table so that you can see where you are at the moment and assess how much improvement you need to make.

I would also recommend Joe Friel's book (for me, the Mountain Bikers Training Bible) for as a complimentary source of information (for instance, about periodisation).

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best power training book in 2007, 26 Jan 2008
By S. Baynes (Bristol UK) - See all my reviews

I bought a Powertap powermeter early last year and this book to help me understand how to use it. I have a library of race training books, however this is currently one of the few that provides a real insight on how to use the powermeter and all the data logged to train correctly. Whilst it does contain example annual training plans, one area it doesn't go into great depth is setting those plans up. There are plenty of other books to help do that though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exploit your Powermeter, 3 May 2009

If you are training with a powermeter THIS IS your book. It puts in order the massive data a powermeter provides and turn it to your own good and benefit.

Not helpfull if you still trainig with heart rate zones though.
