Review

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 "'"This is a brilliant book and it seriously got me through my teaching practice. It is full of really useful and practical information and unlike most teaching books it is an enjoyable read. It deals with preparation for training, getting onto the course, getting through the course and finding your first job. If you are about to start your teacher training then you should add this to your bookshelf'--Sanford Lakoff

I bought this because i am starting a PGCE course in september and it has proved pretty useful in giving me some ideas of what the course may be like. It is set out well and starts with the interview process and tips for that and then moves on to the different issues faced whilst on the course. It has definately been a worthwhile read and i would recommend it to any potential student teacher but the reason for only 4 stars is that it covers alot of ground that is in most books of this type and there is nothing really new. But great for info.

This book looks good, and probably is brilliant for those teachers going into pre-post-compulsary.
Alas it was not so useful to me as the post-compulsary sector is different to these.
However, as i said it looks good for those doing lower ages and so will be given to my friend who is learning to teach GCSE french :P

Really clear and practical, that gets to the heart of the matter. Much of the advice is also applicable well beyond teacher training, making this book highly valuable. Particularly liked the range of examples given and even quoted sentences that can be said in all manner of situations ranging from handling tricky parents at Parents' Evening to a temperamental line manager who has the ability to make life easy or difficult for me.
