We cannot recommend this book highly enough - it is absolutely first-class with something for everyone, whether already an experienced owner/breeder or a beginner. Finding ourselves unexpectedly with a 3-month old Arab filly, in addition to our geriatric family ponies, we had read Richard Maxwell's earlier From Birth to Backing (also very good). Realising just how much we had to learn, we also bought Train Your Young Horse, and found it particularly interesting because it shows how the author's approach has continued to develop since he wrote the earlier book. Train Your Young Horse has made the whole process of working with our Daisy a fascinating and rewarding experience, as well as giving both her and us the confidence to go forward. (Incidentally, I also have 5 children and I am interested by the comparisons Maxwell often draws between dealing with young children and young horses - and can say from experience how very right he is!)

Richard Maxwell Trains Your Young Horse Richard Maxwell Trains Your Young Horse: A Complete Equine Education from Foal to Full Grown This book is full of information with handy pictures, so you can see what he means. It covers basic handling which is so important in a horses education. Richard Maxell really knows horses and gets their personalilties, it's helping me already.

this book is very good we have been using it as a guide to help us train our new horse as he is only 3yrs old and had done nothing when we first got him, he is now learning with us and getting good results as this book said we would if we followed the advice given
