Product Description
DETECTIVE JOHNNY MANN IS BACK Missing children. An evil racket. A race against time ! Summoned to meet his boss, rebellious Detective Johnny Mann expects to be told that he is being demoted. Instead he is ordered to lead the investigation into the kidnapping of Amy Tang - the illegitimate daughter of a major player in the skin trade, CK Leung. Mann is reluctant to help - he has crossed paths with CK before- but he has no choice. Nine-year-old Amy is the third child to be kidnapped and held for a vast sum of money, but while the other two children were released after the vast ransom was paid, Amy is still being held captive. Mann's investigation takes him to London, where he teams up with DC Becky Stamp. Within days of his arrival, an arson attack kills twelve women and children. The charred bodies of the victims are found chained to their beds - their injuries rendering them identifiable! What is the link between the kidnapping of Amy in Hong Kong and the deaths of these women and children and can Mann discover the truth before it's too late.Prepare to be terrorised all over again with this disturbingly addictive thriller from the writer hailed as the female James Patterson.

1.0 out of 5 stars Deeply unpleasant book. Should have 0 stars., 13 Nov 2008
By Shain (Leeds, UK) - See all my reviews
I bought this because I like murder mysteries and thrillers - writers like Lee Childs, Kathy Reichs, etc, and I watch things like CSI and Law and Order with fascination. In short, I don't mind a bit of violence, blood and gore if it's well-written and takes the plot forward. I suspect you can see where this review is going... This book is really, really awful. I read a few chapters, trying to persevere in case it got better. It didn't. This is a badly-written, deeply unpleasant book, unless you want to read about rape, torture and abuse of women and girls. If this was a documentary you could convince yourself it was designed to educate, but this is supposed to be entertainment. Perhaps because it's happening to Thai women it doesn't count? I did wonder whether it was supposed to be a morality tale, but I think the (female) author just likes writing to shock - with her poor writing and her obsession with sexual violence against women and children. Please don't encourage her by buying this book. I always give books I've read to a charity shop, but I will be putting this one in the shredder instead. It's just a shame she got some money out of me for this ghastly misogynist rot.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read, 11 Feb 2009
I purchased Lee Weeks first book, The Trophy Taker, at the airport on my way from LOndon Heathrow to New York and it was brilliant. Obviously written with first hand experience of life in Hong Kong, her second book, The Trafficked, was equally as good and I fully recommend reading both books. Lee Weeks is a new author, some say in the mold of James Patterson, high praise in deed, I look forward to her third book due to be released in 2009.

5.0 out of 5 stars fast but honest, 29 Dec 2008
By susan heaton (Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
The first Weeks book i have read, and quite a change from the run of the mill detective book. Its fast, and very truthful, sometimes disturbingly so, but thats not a bad thing it makes the read more credible. its a very difficult topic, sometimes the story line is brutal, but it keeps you reading
