I increasingly lost interest in ABC following the heady heights of 'Lexicon of Love'. I found 'Beauty Stab' a bit of a disappointing follow-up, and although I liked the quirky beats of 'How to be a Zillionaire', parts of the album were so raw that some songs were almost left battered and bleeding. 'Alphabet City' managed to capture some of the original ABC sound, but 'Abracadabra' and 'Up' seemed to just coast along in a direction that I didn't much care for. However, having read a very positive review of 'Traffic', I downloaded the album out of curiosity recently, and I was very pleasantly surprised! In fact, I'd go as far to say it would have made a perfect follow-up to Lexicon of Love. The sound is unmistakable: classic ABC. All the best elements are here - it's catchy, with typically clever use of lyrics, and there's tons of variety. I hardly ever write reviews, but I can't stop playing this album, and I'd really like to encourage others to take a listen. If you long for the days of ABC at their best, just sit back and enjoy!
