This book of stunning photographs approaches naval history and the Trafalgar 200 historic event in a way that I have never seen before. Most books covering naval history do so from a rather dry perspective providing pictures of ships, ships and more ships with a lot of fairly standardised commentary. This is not to say that they are not good, most are very good.

Trafalgar 200 Through the Lens does include ships, plenty, some of them frightening close up, but more importantly it delves into to personalities of the people in and around Trafalgar 200 through pictures. Close portrait pictures of weathered, salty seamen, elegant pictures of admirals from around the world and hilarious pictures of sailors from many countries enjoying the party spirit as guests of the Navy. With of course the Red Arrows and spectacular fireworks.

A little pricey perhaps? Maybe, but this book, packed with high quality pictures, some irreverence and very little text will entertain, educate and provide food for thought for my family and me for a very long time. This book is an historic event.
