Product Description

Synopsis
Henna body decoration is generally practiced on festive occasions, religious ceremonies, most notably, weddings. In all cultures that practice henna painting, it is the hands and feet that are commonly decorated; for weddings the designs can extend onto the arms and legs. Design motifs vary from culture to culture. For instance, North African Henna Designs tend to be geometric or composed from highly stylized flowers. Indian designs are usually drawn within a square, rectangle or circle which is then surrounded by a myriad of smaller patterns that cover the hands and lower arms, the feet and ankles. Motifs are taken from a vast Indian decorative vocabulary: Moghul flowers, Paisly patters, complicated tendril designs, stars, vines, spirals, leaves, checkerboards, water drops and waves.

4.0 out of 5 stars great design source book, 6 April 2006
By NJO "babygirluk" (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews
This book is has hundreds of different styles of mehndi designs and motifs that are a great inspiration to artists and henna enthusiasts alike. However there is only a short introduction which is given in five languages so those wanting something wordier should look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, 18 Mar 2009

This book is brilliant - I am a painter and saw it at Marrakech airport for about forty quid. I was tempted, but waited til I got home. It is a very comprehensive visual reference and the patterns are stunning, even if you don't want to paint yourself with henna!

5.0 out of 5 stars For Henna enthusiasts, 5 Jan 2009
By IJK "IJK" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

This book is great for those who are looking both for inspiration and patterns for Henna. There is a huge variety in style, size and intricacy. There are small motifs that can be used to create your own designs. Highly recommeneded for henna fans, of any level.
As the previous reviewer has stated, there is only a short introduction and teh rest of book is full of patterns. Enjoy!!
