Book Description

AMAZON BEST SELLER!
You don't need to be British to enjoy the delicious traditional cakes found in this collection of 20 recipes. Traditional British Cake Recipes are fun, simple baking recipes. Most British cakes are easy to bake. There are a variety of home baking recipes for every taste and occasion. From the simplest sponge cake to the more exotic traditional British Christmas cake you will find great cake recipes in this book.

"I grew up in the south of England at a time when most Mums still stayed at home and looked after the house and kids. My Mum loved to bake - cakes, pies, scones, tarts and puddings. My happiest memories are of sitting in the kitchen watching the weighing and measuring, mixing and pouring, kneading and rolling. Waiting patiently until it was time to lick the mixing bowl clean.

Baking is almost a lost art form. Store bought cakes are the norm these days. But home made cakes can't be surpassed for taste, economy and most of all, the pleasure of feeding good food to your family. There are so many additives - preservatives, colorings, chemicals and worst of all, high fructose corn syrup - in commercial products. Home baked cakes are just so much healthier and you will know exactly what went into each and every bite."

    More About the Author

I grew up in the south of England at a time when most Mums still stayed at home and looked after the house and kids. My Mum loved to bake and I guess I inherited my love of cooking from her. She was happiest in the kitchen, apron on, rolling pin in hand, and us kids around the table chatting and shelling the peas my Dad grew in the garden.

Now I live in the United States and I love to surprise my guests with traditional British food such as Bubble and Squeak, Toad in the Hole, and the one pudding guaranteed to cause many frivolous remarks, Spotted Dick. My American friends love to make good-natured fun of British food along with my "funny" accent!

I am a huge animal lover, which caused me to become a vegetarian many years ago. But I still cook meat for guests and for my dog. I also love art, reading, music and needlework.

    5.0 out of 5 stars BESTSELLER FOR A REASON 30 May 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's easy to see how this book is a Kindle bestseller because it's exactly what makes Kindle great -- a low-priced recipe book that's well-written and perfect for your electronic reader. You get all of the traditional favourites in this recipe book -- Victoria Sponge, Fairy Cakes, Rock Cakes -- but you also get some recipes that are less common. We had never heard of Paradise Cake or Parkin but the recipes are written in an easy-to-use manner so it doesn't matter if you've never made the recipe before. Because I'm not the best cook or baker, I choose to use recipe books that are written for people who need things explained! The author does a good job of explaining how to make the cakes and she'll even tell you a little bit about what the cakes are or where they came from.

What was your favourite recipe? NEVER-FAIL BOILED FRUIT CAKE (PERFECT FOR ME!)

Would you recommend this to a friend? I'VE RECOMMENDED THIS TO MY AMERICAN FRIENDS WHO LOVE DOWNTON ABBEY -- THEY WANT TO BAKE AUTHENTIC BRITISH. :-)

What did you like most about this book? YOU GET THE SENSE THAT THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A REAL PERSON WHO HAS ACTUALLY BAKED THESE RECIPES FOR HER FAMILY.

5.0 out of 5 stars These really are British! 26 Dec. 2013

I have the Scone book by the same author and this is very similar. Great British cake recipes, tried and tested and simply presented. Good old rock cakes, Madeira, a very easy and tasty oatmeal and ginger and loads more.

It's a short book, but every recipe is tempting and there's nothing complicated. I have many of the recipes in other books, but there's half a dozen I haven't come across before and it's good to have such a selection together in one handy volume. A great addition to my cookery books collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so good 14 Jan. 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't like the fact it's all in ounces and the oven temps are all old style as well, I know you can convert them yourself but why would I bother. Having said that there are some good old fashioned recipients in here which is what I was looking for

4.0 out of 5 stars Jen cooking with grandchildren 16 Feb. 2014
    By Jen
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this because of the title and cover of the book.
I was just looking for simple and basic recipes for My grandchildren to cook from when they come to stay,
I has everything I need easy to follow instructions with usual ingredients from food cupboard and no fancy ingredients I can't get hold of.
Down side I like colourful pictures of what I'm baking, there aren't any but I'm not too bothered as long as they taste good! Not tried and tested yet.
Rating 4 only because no pictures but sure it will be worth 5 stars woken tried and tested.
