Product Description

Biscuits. Another great British tradition. Put the kettle on, brew a pot of tea and settle down with a good plate of bickies. Now that I live in America I’ve had to get used to calling them cookies. Biscuits here look more like English scones. Delicious, but you can’t dunk them in your tea or coffee like you can real biscuits.

I thought it would be great to put together a book of all the traditional British biscuit recipes I could lay my hands on. Of course, not many people make their own these days, especially as there are so many wonderful varieties to be found in the supermarket. But they really are so easy to make and so yummy. Great fun to do with the kids on a rainy day.

Twenty delectable delights to choose from:-

More About the Author

I grew up in the south of England at a time when most Mums still stayed at home and looked after the house and kids. My Mum loved to bake and I guess I inherited my love of cooking from her. She was happiest in the kitchen, apron on, rolling pin in hand, and us kids around the table chatting and shelling the peas my Dad grew in the garden.

Now I live in the United States and I love to surprise my guests with traditional British food such as Bubble and Squeak, Toad in the Hole, and the one pudding guaranteed to cause many frivolous remarks, Spotted Dick. My American friends love to make good-natured fun of British food along with my "funny" accent!

I am a huge animal lover, which caused me to become a vegetarian many years ago. But I still cook meat for guests and for my dog. I also love art, reading, music and needlework.

5.0 out of 5 stars traditional british biscuit recipes 22 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What an excellent little recipe book. Great selection of some well known biscuits. The book is simply set out and the recipes are really easy to follow. A great addition for a cooks library. My daughter in law is not a very experienced cook and even she finds the recipes easy and is now enjoying what she calls the challenge of cooking. She has even hinted that she would like a set of the books. I purchased the 3 other books from same author as well i,e scones, puddings, cakes and all are excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars British biscuits banish the blues 29 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
British biscuits banish the blues and how! The satisfaction of hands-on cooking with your children. The mouth-watering smells that eminate from the oven as they bake, heightening the anticipation of the moment they are ready. As they cool put the kettle on and make yourself a cuppa.Sit down in your favourite armchair and savour each bite, whether its a plain rich tea or a buttery petticoat tail shortbread. I have already baked both of these recipes and they disappeared at a rate of knots you would not believe. My son took two petticoat tails shortbread to school and was the envy of his friends.I'm looking forward to trying out all of the recipes and so are my famiy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty, simple and satisfying. 2 Dec 2012

I love biscuits. When I was young, my mum used to make them daily and I grew up in a home where the tin always had a variety of home made biscuits available.

This book of recipes took me back to those days. There is just nothing to beat the taste and smell of a home made biscuit. They are so easy to make. We've become conditioned to pre packed as the ready to eat form. Wrong. Take 15 minutes of your life and a very few basic store cupboard ingredients. That's all you need to get started because once that first tray of golden, hot, fragrant and tasty delights comes out of the oven, I'm certain you'll be inspired to try more recipes. And they work out good value. No palm oil, flavour enhancers, colourings etc. just good old fashioned biscuit bakes. You know it makes sense! Delish :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what it says on the cover 23 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book would be great for anyone looking for simple recipes for proper British biscuits. From jammy dodgers to rich tea this book has it all, and no fancy nonsense in between. These recipes are easy to make, and do not require any special or expensive ingredients. The only drawback for UK purchasers is that the measurements are given in American style e.g. cups, ounces, Fahrenheit etc. Still, a quick Google search and you could easily convert the measurements in seconds. Overall would recommend, especially to anyone looking for simple but fun recipes to do with kids.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shortage of recipes 11 Feb 2014

Not enough recipes. I'm sure there are more traditional biscuits available. Just obtained a recipe book from the 40's with 60 old traditional recipes from a charity shop.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok but needs more
I choose this book to bake biscuits with the kids but I found that the recipes were bland and boring. They instructions were easy to follow but I just found it a boring book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite Nice
I would have given this five stars but a few recipes just state 'flour' not what type of flour is required. Apart from that, some nice unusual and firm favourite biscuits.
