3.0 out of 5 stars Tony Martin (ex Black Sabbath) on vocals! 28 April 2003
By L. B. Ivarsson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Tony Martin (ex Black Sabbath singer) seem to be involved with many projects these days - Mollo/Martin "The cage I & II", Rondinelli's "Our cross, our sins", and this one: Empire. It's melodic (hard) rock and `tho it's not world class, it sure has it's good moments. Tony Martin have co-written every song on the album and he's voice is still very good. The material isn't cutting edge but it's rather attractive most of the time, like in the opening mid tempo rocker "One in a million" with its radio friendly chorus; the beautiful "Teenage deadhead" on which Martin deliver a soulful feeling with his voice. Other outstanding tunes are the faster "Big world, little man"; the catchy "Back in the light" and the slower "Did you ever love me". Critics may say it's all harmless pop metal, but if you're an AOR fan I believe you'll find Empire's "Trading souls" interesting. And if you're a fan of Tony martin you shouldn't hesitate to buy this album.
By the way, Neil Murray plays bass!

5.0 out of 5 stars A melodic hard rock classic at its own right! 30 Jun 2012
By Nikiforos V. Skoumas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
"Trading Souls" is the second studio album by melodic hard rock project "Empire" originally released in 2003, reissued in 2012 by "Lion Music". "Empire" was one of the musical vehicles for German songwriter/guitar hero Rolf Munkes who beyond his technical skills, seemed to draw the attention of many better known musicians.

The line up of "Trading Souls" features such rock legends as bassist Neil Murray ("Whitesnake", "Black Sabbath"), keyboardist Don Airey (Ozzy, "Deep Purple") and vocal titan Tony Martin ("Black Sabbath") alongside Rolf Munkes and drummer Gerald Kloos.

"Empire" is first and foremost a songwriting-driven album emphasizing on infectious guitar harmonies and irresistible vocal melodies. Songs like "One in a Million", "Perfect Singularity", "Wherever you go" and "Pay Back time" perfectly justify why these rock legends were eager to participate in this project. It has to be addressed that "Trading souls" is far from an over-produced album, in fact, by contemporary production standards you could label it as minimalistic; particularly when considering the rather thin drum sound. The 2012 re-issue has clearly refined the album as far as mastering is concerned without of course altering its light-weight essence. Overall almost a decade past its release, "Trading Souls" should rightfully be considered a classic album of the genre where the founders of the genre meet the talented newcomer.

4.0 out of 5 stars classy melodic hard rock album 20 Feb 2013
By Mr. Timothy S. Jones - Published on Amazon.com

with crisp, modern production. Strong melodies, big guitars, big vocals courtesy of Tony Martin. A tasty treat for fans of classic style hard rock like Whitesnake, Rainbow, post- Ozzy Sabbath. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars tony martin para siempre! 21 Sep 2003
By Luis Herrera Abad - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
