Trading Options

The key to success is being prepared and working hard, says author Greg Harmon. Part of this preparation is using proven tools to make important decisions about your money and your future. In Trading Options: Using Technical Analysis to Design Winning Trades, the founder of Dragonfly Capital Management, LLC shares his unique process for trading stocks and options using technical analysis. Although not yet a widely accepted methodology, technical analysis is quickly becoming a popular mainstream technique for trading in a volatile market.

Harmon presents a series of four building blocks that move you from broad investment ideas to more specific trading strategies using technical tools. His techniques are based on traditional methods such as manual chart examination (as opposed to relying on scanning tools), which he then adapts for a modern era. The book is written to be both a learning tool and a reference guide about smart trading for stocks and options, presented in plain English, to help anyone be more prepared to find success with their investments.

Beginning with how to identify market trends and causes of change, Harmon dives deep into market influencers and inter–market relationships. He includes a discussion of the S&P 500, emerging markets, the US Treasury, and market indicators. Identifying trends, Harmon says, will allow you to predict which way 70% of the market will move over time. It is a simple concept that forms the basis of deeper trend analysis opportunities discussed in the latter part of the book, and can move you beyond the major Index ETFs and ahead of the majority of investors.

The advanced strategies within are presented in an easy–to–digest manner, with straightforward discussions and clear price chart examples that don t require an advanced degree in Mathematics or Engineering. It is a book designed to be useful to everyone, even those who only have a 401k. The basis of technical analysis is not a hard and fast set of rules, but rather a historical look at prices and at what could be in the future. Trading Options is your authoritative resource on using technical analysis to profit when trading indexes, sectors, stocks, or options.

Scott Redler, Chief Strategic Officer/partner, T3 Partners

As another self–proclaimed top–down technician I know what it s like ripping through 1000 charts in a weekend. In Trading Options Greg Harmon explains the importance of perfecting this process to benefit you as a trader. He explains a variety of complex concepts in more simple terms. I particularly enjoyed how the book proceeds from first identifying larger trends to then executing trades using options.
J.C. Parets, CMT, Founder & President, Eagle Bay Capital, LLC

Fantastic Book 29 Mar. 2014
By C. Coulas - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I don't trade options (yet), but I do trade & invest in equities, mutual funds & ETFs. I have studied the stock market in school and for years, and work as a financial advisor at a bank. Investing is very different from trading, but saying all of that...
This book has been the best one so far for me. The first chapter alone is worth it's weight in gold. He gives a great formula for how to do your homework and just in doing that, I can tell that I have vastly increased my knowledge. The next chapter is about technical analysis and indicators. It is great because it is deep enough to give a basic/intermediate info without being so advanced as to be boring. The next 2 chapters are about options and trade execution.
I can honestly say that I zipped through the book, and by the end of the 2nd chapter, things finally "clicked" for me. Whereas before I would invest/trade based on research, opinions and "predictions", some good & some bad. Now I am trading and investing based on an actual methodology, and have a reason, target and exit for every trade and every investment. This is a fantastic book, and I recommend it to everyone interested in stock markets.

A commonsense approach to trading 30 April 2014
By John Ahrens - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I appreciated the way Greg explained how to identify trend analysis and then he takes you step-by-step thru sector analysis and then finally to options strategies. As Greg explains so well, if you get the big picture and the major trends right, you have already given yourself an edge in picking winning trades.

Best option book I've read 20 Dec. 2014
By Brian Caffrey - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Excellent book for beginners to understand building a process with a top down analysis followed by precise option trades. I wish I had read this book before jumping into options...I would have avoided mini-options in Apple. Since reading and re-reading this book I have become a better trader. Greg also offers a follow on service which takes this book to an actionable weekly service, which I have too . The book and the service are the perfect way for a beginner to trade options with the assistance of an expert. This will be your best investment decision before you actually risk any money in the options market.
