Book Description

Chloe Carew is a national treasure. Property tycoon, country sports campaigner, TV personality - the feisty multi-millionaire is fast becoming an 'A' list celebrity businesswoman. In the circumstances, having her mobile phone hacked by a tabloid newspaper was perhaps not surprising.

Dan Doyle used to work for a tabloid newspaper. He used to interview government ministers, investigate serious crime and cover major events. Now he works for a news agency on the Isle of Skye. He interviews local councillors, investigates missing lawn mowers and covers the price of fish.

Is there a connection? And is there more to Carew than meets the public eye?

To find out, Doyle must convince his new boss he's more than just an unethical has-been. He must solve a mystery involving Balkan drug dealers, missing lobstermen, novelty tea pots and a barking cat.

And he must find Carew's secret ... before she finds him.

Forget the Highland chintz and clichés. The story is set on Skye featuring the handsome, fearless, jazz-loving journalist Dan Doyle. And that is where the clichés end (or maybe not) as it involves drugs, phone hacking, novelty teapots and a barking cat. Great story, intriguing plot delivered in a dry but entertaining way. (...and I do like the cover).

5.0 out of 5 stars Update 28 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I saw a sneak preview of the first few chapters and can't wait to read the rest (full disclosure. i know the author) The first few chapters were gripping though....

Update: I've read it now. Very gripping, a real "page turner" (if you can say that for Kindle book), extremely well-plotted and with very good descriptions off Skye.

makes me want to go there - and makes me keen to read the further adventures of Dan Doyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pacey script 21 Sept. 2013

Could not put this book down, each chapter pulled you on to the next one and there were surprises around every corner. Dan Doyle is a very fallible hero and all the better for that. I thoroughly enjoyed the setting in Skye and the colour and landscape that brought but I also look forward to reading of Dan Doyle in an urban setting. However for this introduction to him the ghosts of the past that make up his character are deep rooted in the Skye community and it was a great setting. I agree with all the other reviews and yes, in the interests of transparency, I know the author too but this book genuinely engaged and entertained. More of Dan and Holly please - would make a great film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skye High 31 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Come over the sea to Skye with Dan Doyle, investigative journalist, down on his luck and out of his job with a national tabloid. On Skye, Dan works with the local paper and, in his spare time, has a drink, gets beaten up in the pub toilet and worries about what happened to the crew of a local lobster boat, lost at sea.
Meanwhile, Chloe Carew, TV presenter and multi-millionaire is less than gruntled with Dan - and with the fact that he phone has been hacked.
What can link the London millionaire with the Skye journalistic has-been?

You'll have to read Trade Secret to find out. And you'll love it. Dan is a wonderful creation, entirely credible: full of faults but with a hunger for the truth. Even a doing from some Balkan drug dealers doesn't put him off. From London tabloid to Skye blatt makes no difference to Dan. Some guys have a natural feeling for a real story. And is there romance in the air?

A brilliant read - I've been to Skye a couple of times and Cairns brings it rising out of the page to meet you, in all its desolate beauty. Doyle is a great character - of whom I'm sure we'll read much more.

And Cairns has a delightful sense of humour. A real page turner. Get it now!
