Safe Zone

Do you want to get an alert if your horse leaves the paddock? If your dog plays in your neighbor's backyard? If your pet has run out of the village? Then Tractive Safe Zone is a fantastic feature you don't want to miss. Tractive enables you to set a Safe Zone for your pet. As soon as your pet leaves the Safe Zone, you get an alert directly on your smartphone. No SMS costs, no hidden fees.

LIVE-Tracking/ Integrated Light

Tractive not only shows you where your pet was a few minutes ago, but also enables you to track your pet LIVE over the internet or the Tractive Apps. Start the Live Tracking Mode and you will see the trace where your pet was and where it is headed right now. The integrated light not only helps to find missing pets in the dark, but also increases the visibility of your pet when going for a walk close to roads.

Where Tractive Works

Tractive works in Europe and lots of other countries worldwide (more information on the website of the manufacturer). The Tractive GPS device leverages the cell phone infrastructure to communicate with the Tractive apps. In order for this to work, Tractive has agreements with many cell phone operators and carriers in all countries listed above. Depending on the cell coverage of the different carriers, you might not have signal everywhere in those countries. Typically Tractive should work wherever your cell phone works in those countries, but we can't guarantee 100% coverage.

Monthly Service Only £4.49

Tractive uses GPS and communicates through cell phone towers, which enable you to track your pet 24/7. Since using the cell phone towers and infrastructure has costs associated with it, a small monthly or annual fee has to be charged by Tractive. As we are confident you will love Tractive, you don't need a service commitment, can stop and restart the service anytime, and of course we don't charge any activation or other hidden fees.

This has to be the best product ever invented. My Maine Coon went missing before christmas only to be found a week later locked in an old people's home. Just after Christmas he disappeared again, thks time for 7 days during which time my heart was broken. He came home 7 days later after being traped2in the bottom of an industrial bin very close by. Since I have had this tracker I now know every single location that hes6at and like a crazed mum, if I think he's waandering too far away in the dark, I simply turn his remote light on and go and walk him home, like a dog that he thinks he is. This tracker is a must for anyone that has a big cat that wznders, you'll enjoy watching them live on the satellite, its amazing and all my friends and pets at home customers get told this too. I've recommended this too everyone. Thanks, you've saved me from more grey hairs and heartache.

I was excited by the possibilities of this product - my dogs are beagles, which are notorious for poor recall. One sniff of a deer/fox/rabbit and they can be gone for hours on end. Having a tracker to let me know where they are and whether they are heading home or straying close to busy roads would save me worry, and help me get them back safely.

The Tractive product does what I need in principle (it even has a beagle on the box!) BUT the problem is that it just doesn't work in areas where mobile data is less than perfect. I live in a Bedfordshire village close to major road and rail links where mobile phone coverage is generally good - but it appears not good enough for this device and its app. I had never noticed a problem for normal mobile apps, but the Tractive app, on which the whole the system depends, stops working.

There is no audible warning of this, so the first I know is when my dog runs off and I look at my mobile to see where he's gone. The Tractive app tells me where he was maybe 10 minutes ago, which is hopeless. Try to get it to reconnect to the tracker on my dog and I get an error, often even when I know I am in an area with good GPRS - passing through a blackspot can prevent it reconnecting even when you have got the network back. You can overcome this by switching the tracker off and back on - but clearly you can't do that if your dog's run off....... One time last week it did reconnect - but showed my dog making his way around some streets nearly half a mile from his actual location by my side in a field!

I've tried all the options the device/app provides but have reluctantly concluded that i have wasted my money.

This is an example of the "internet of things." Mr Peanut Butter and I have been testing this device for 7 months. So this is not an off-the-cuff review but an account of our real-world experiences.

In summary, this is for me an indispensable but flawed product. Since if I lost my dog I would pay anything to get him back, the cost of the device and the small monthly subscription represents a valuable assurance policy, even if it is not always 100% dependable under exigent circumstances.

Some basic parameters must be understood. This device incorporates not one but two RF devices. 1, GPS receiver and 2, a mobile phone SMS transmitter.

The third RF-dependent element is the smart phone application. This is a good solid app, but to receive full data from the device you will need a robust 3G or 4G signal.

So, if you live in an area with a weak or non-existent mobile phone signal, this will not work for you. The device requires a steady connection to a GPRS mobile network to communicate its position.

If you live or take your dog into into a deeply forested area, it will not work because the GPS signal will be attenuated or non-existent, hence the device will be unable to geolocate the dog. This is worse in the summer due to the phenomenon of green leaf attenuation.

Then there is a physical issue. Or two, really. The first is charging the device. This can be fiddly and you must be very careful that the contacts on the charger make a good connection with the device. If your dog loves leaping into muddy water (as does Mr PB) then the device will become dirty and the contacts less effective. I have found cleaning the contacts with a toothpick is usually a good solution.

I looked for a long time for the most suitable dog tracking system for our dogs and area we live in. This was definitely the right one for us. We live in a very rural area, surrounded with fields. We can see live, where the dogs are and where they have been. You
can see the exact field they are in. The only complaint is that it came with a foreign plug for the charger (the one that fits into a shavers socket in the bathroom!) And very strict instructions about not using other adaptors as they would overcharge the devise. You do need an iphone 4 or above for the app to work and be warned that it costs £4-5 a month to activate the system. It does really work though. No more being out at midnight whistling for the dogs to come home and having no ideas where they are,
