5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book from the Traction Era! 7 Nov 2012

I was gutted when the original Quartet ended and the prequels started, i really wanted a book that was somewhat connected to initial era, but not a sequel to it and Reeve has done a brilliant job with this short story! A must read if you're, like me, an avid fan of the Mortal Engine series...

This is a wonderful series, and anything that adds to it is very welcome. It codifies information scattered throughout the Hungry Cities series

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book 21 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
In his typical style, Pullman has added another book to the series with that little extra detail, linking in to before the time of Mortal Engines. However, as it was a short book I don't think it is as good as it could be with a bit more added to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Traction City story 4 April 2013

If you haven't read this entire 7 book series, then I must tell you that you have a gigantic hole, about the size of London, in your reading life.

This is a short story set in the period (I think) shortly prior to Predator Cities #1: Mortal Engines, perhaps 1000 years after Fever Crumb and will mean much more to you if you've read the series. It will stand alone if you just want a small taste of Municipal Darwinism but really, read the whole series in order if you can.

How much do I love the Predator Cities? Let me put it this way - my other favorites are The Hunger Games (Book 1) and Altered Carbon: A Takeshi Kovacs Novel (Takeshi Kovacs Novels) and this is just as great of a treasure.

Because it's a short story, I really can't say more without spoiling it. So, trust me on this :-)

I have enjoyed many of Reeve's novels, especially the Fever Crumb series, and enjoyed them all. Can't wait to read them to my grandson.
