Book Description

An adventure in the discovery of history. When the wreckage of an old warplane is discovered in a remote area of North Thailand, the author’s attempt to identify the aircraft and its mission set him off on a hunt that went on for almost ten years. A lot of history was uncovered – and some old mysteries solved. Interviews with pilots of the famous American Volunteer Group (AVG) Flying Tigers, members of the OSS – the forerunner to the CIA – and with officers of the Anti-Japanese Free Thai Movement, give a first-hand look at colorful aspects of World War II history that were little known in Thailand and even less so to the world outside.

More About the Author

Bob Bergin, a former U.S. Foreign Service officer and Southeast Asia specialist, writes on the history of aviation in Southeast Asia and China, on the Office of Strategic Services (OSS),and on military operations in the World War II China-Burma-India theater. After his career in the Foreign Service, Bob and his wife Monique started a business importing art and antiques from Southeast Asia and India and travel to the region regularly. Bob also works with historic aviation groups in Asia. His novels reflect these interests: "Stone Gods, Wooden Elephants," an adventure in the world of Asian antiques; "When Tigers Fly," a contemporary search for a valuable WWII Flying Tiger airplane, and "Spies in the Garden," a tale of war and espionage in Burma and China in the early days of World War II.
