Fast Track by Julie Garwood kicks off on a sad note as Cordelia Kane's dad, Andrew Kane, suffered a severe heart attack. It was the third time he had such an attack. Too much damage had been done to his anterior wall and there was no hope of a recovery. But a shock far greater than his father's imminent death awaited Cordie as she sat by his side in the critical care unit of the hospital. All along she has been made to believe that her mother Natalie Ann Smith died in a car crash when she was still too young to remember but her father's dying words were: She didn't.

When Cordie gets hold of her mother's cold, brutal and unfeeling parting letter which was wrapped in tissue and sealed in a plastic bag by her father and learns why her mother Natalie left when she was only two years old, she is determined not only to track down the woman who broke her father's heart but also wanted to find out if Natalie get the life she wanted to live or if there was any justice, the life she deserved. She also came across all the four letters sent by her father to Natalie but they were all returned unopened.

What started as a simple quest to find her mother, learn more about her and her mother's family turns into a deadly business as someone wants Cordie dead. Fast Track by Julie Garwood is heart-wrenching, and absorbing. There are a host of characters who really shine through the book. Aiden, Sophie, Regan, Alec and Jack are all fascinating characters who play important roles in the story. This romantic suspense story is a real delight to read.

This review is from: Fast Track (Mass Market Paperback)
A good book is not always all about the hero or heroine being front center of the story. They could be, but what good would it do if it lack a good plot. I like that this, FAST TRACK, did not just centered mostly about the leads but also on an array of different interesting well drawn out characters. They are all so good that I wish the author, Ms.Garwood, would write a full length story on each one of them. This featured true frienship among Cordelia's two best friends from childhood, Regan and Sophie, and their spouses and Regan's 3 brothers.and their unshakeable bond and love for each other. It is about Cordelia's discovery of the circumstances of her birth, a shocking truth that took her into a tailspin of more secrets and lies and a race to save her own life from the hands of her own blood-kin and unknown enemies.

I don'tlike men who are all talk and full of deceit. Aiden Madison may not be a man full of talk with empty promises but a man of action. His integrity is high and he's welll respected. He's protective of his family and friends, especially of Cordie. He's man of few words but takes charge on any crisis, he takes charge and takes no prisoner when he's on a mission. He's handsome as sin, a multi millionaire, works hard for his money, he's fair and square. He loves Cordie, only de doesn't know it... yet.

Cordie is smart and witty, highly intelligent and has a good heart the size of Alaska. She has grown into a beautiful woman, doesn't even realize what effect she has on men. She's been infatuated with Aiden since she was a little girl...and now very much in love with him, and doesn't know what to do about it. Together this two are match made in heaven, a powerhouse. Their bantering is like a battle of wits, it's like a foreplay to a strong and intense sexual tension between them...that inevitably lead to a hot and steamy sex they've been battling for so long.

This tale is a rare combination of suspenseful murder plot, lies, greed, secret and deceit, true friendship and not an ordinary love affair. I love this book, it's a must read!

Kirkus Reviews has said that Julie Garwood writes "gripping escapism of the tallest order," which accurately describes Fast Track as read by the always outstanding Tanya Eby. So, suspend disbelief and listen as passion and long hidden secrets take center stage.

Cordelia is an accomplished woman whom we find sitting by the bedside of her dying father. She learns that her mother was not killed in an auto accident when Cordelia was only a child, but is very much alive and well living in Australia. She left Cordelia's father saying she had been unsatisfied in her life with him and wished to have nothing more to do with him. And, to put it bluntly he can keep Cordelia.

Curious to know the woman who had abandoned her so easily she determines to find her mother. Aiden Madison, a high powered businessman, that Cordelia has always loved insists that she join him on his private jet bound for Sydney, Australia. Of course, she agrees eager to find her mother.

Complicating matters and Cordelia's life is Aiden who upon arrival in Australia buys her expensive gifts, ball gowns, and becomes an ever present figure in her life. He goes to far as to restrict her actions, obviously an extremely possessive move.

While a very intelligent woman Cordelia may soon find herself in situations she not only cannot control but does not relish. Once again Garwood has created a mysterious story, one that will keep listeners waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Absolutely loved this book- loads of action and romance. I loved Cordelia's story of her childhood, her dad and about her horrible family in Australia. Although Aidan is highhanded and bossy, his wising up to the fact that he's in love with Cordelia makes for entertaining reading. A well deserving HEA for these two characters.
