My recent review of Chambao's 'Con Otro Aire' bemoaned the trend towards over-production, perhaps even (whisper it) blandness. La Shica's album 'Trabajito de Chinos' more than counters this with a blast of daring fresh air. Yes, there's some RAP, a hint of flamenco, but so much more too. Easier perhaps to mention artists I was reminded of: a healthy dash of Las Ninas, a sprinkling of Bebe, a twist of Ojos de Brujo, all mixed with a little splash of jazz/rock influences. This is an album of surprises, wholly devoid of compromises. This is hot, spicy stuff - Spanish music for a new generation, fresh, original, off-the-wall. Love it!
