This book has projects for beginner knitters as well as very experienced knitters. The farmyard play mat is so simple but looks fabulous and has, not only every family of animals, but even the fences and hay! You wil find a reindeer, scottie dog, monkey, kangaroo, fairytale mice, rag head doll, dalmation, skating elephant and pirate rat too. The book is not short of teddies and rabbits of all types, as angels, farmers, sailors and even ballerinas! There are some quite chalenging projects knitting with colours, such as the gingham bear and tartan bear, but they are well worth the effort. The two outstanding features of these toys are firstly the fantastic shaping instructions of the creatures, and secondly their colourful clothing as in the slip stitch colour pattern of the girl rabbit's dress and the wonderful fair isle slipover for a teddy. Well worth every penny.

I bought this book as a gift for my Grandmother. She is an accomplished knitter and has been knitting toys of all descriptions for years. I had been searching for something to buy her for Christmas and was encouraged by the reviews of this and another book of Debbie Bliss (Teddy Bears: More Than 25 Irresistible Designs for Knitted Bears).
I ordered both and was very happy with them. There's a variety of toys and I have already put in my requests!
I am not a knitter so can not comment on the patterns but she seemed very happy with the book and was looking forward to knitting something new. She was very happy to see the pattern for a camel! She already had a pattern for a nativity scene but had to improvise a camel in the past!
So if your looking for a gift for someone who has everything but can knit this looks like a good buy to me! I'm hoping she'll teach me one day.

I like this book because it requires, for most patterns, a bit more experience than, say the wonderful Jean Greenhowe books, but it is not too difficult as to be out of reach of an advancing knitter of toys. There are some easy patterns too, like some of the farmyard toys and the pirate rat. There are patterns to try a slip stitch colour pattern and also to try intasia knitting on a small project. So, there are good patterns for learning new knitting techniques. Some toy patterns become staples, and you return to them many times, and quite a few in this book have joined my list of favourite patterns. I particularly like the skating elephant and have made many pigs. Buy it for any knitter, they will be thrilled, especially if they like bears and rabbits.

I love this book, I have knitted the Ballerina rabbit which turned out great, I did not use the recommended wool, I just used cheap double knit and 4 ply with great results!! I do find with Debbies patterns (I have knitted her baby's clothes) that you must take time to read the instructions carefully, as you can easily go wrong!!

I am surprised at the contents of this book. I don't think it comes up to the usual Debbie Bliss standard. I think it is possibly one of her early books as the patterns look a bit unprofessional and the toys don't seem to have much character. There are far better knitted toy books out there. This is a very basic book. The mice are cute though,I might knit a few of those but nothing else. Before you buy this have a good look at other bookson the Amazon site.

I tried the piglet pattern and managed to complete it but there were mistakes in the pattern. I have found this before in Debbie Bliss patterns. Does anyone ever test knit the patterns or are they published on trust because she is a biggie in the knitting world? Approach with caution unless you have the experience to sort out the mistakes.
