Book Description

1 Feb 2011

Toy Cameras, Creative Photos is the perfect book for creative photographers, image-makers, designers, and toy camera aficionados. Focusing on the photographs produced by each camera, this is a stunning visual guide to the unique stylistic qualities that different toy cameras offer. Arranged by camera model (all of the cameras included are readily available and in popular current use), Toy Cameras, Creative Photos discusses camera characteristics, special tricks, foibles, functionality, and interesting projects by users, but the visual emphasis is firmly on the photographs. The workings of each camera model are described, as are the ways in which they differ from “everyday” digital cameras, and the distinctive photographic results reveal a huge potential for experimentation that moves away from run-of-the-mill photography. Including a gallery of images produced by each camera, a resource section on film types, and adapting cameras to the use of film, Toy Cameras, Creative Photos fills a gap in the market for a comprehensive guide to this most hip and exciting of creative photographic endeavours.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Guide - Pity about the title 12 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Kevin Meredith [aka Lomokev] must be congratulated for taking Lomography as a niche and making it his own here in Britain.
In these 175 pages he offers a succinct and entertaining guide to 40, mainly low cost, cameras which may, or sometimes not, be branded as Lomography.
He briefly explains why Lomography should be considered as a genre of its own and not be confused with mainstream photography, a point that is essential to grasp for those new to the serendipity of this game.
I just fear that the title might misdirect people looking for kid's toys and a few of the cameras are certainly not toy-priced.They are great for rediscovering the fun that got us into picture taking initially.
Apart from that, a superb book. Written in England,Published in Switzerland, Printed in China, smelling vaguely of liqourice, but in a nice way, and sold by Amazon. Who could ask for anything more?

4.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't what I was expecting 5 Jan 2013

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Its a nice guide of a variety of cameras out there (though not all easily available as claimed!) It had some lovely photos (and plenty that give lomography it bad name) overall a good book to have on my shelves.
